Hello,

I just happened to come over your post.

Could you please tell us exactly where you don't get any signal? Both the screen and the computer (via capture device)?

Have you tried the following?
  • Make sure you get a signal to the screen when using an HDMI cable directly from the Xbox 360 to the screen. Please make sure all cables work.
  • Make sure you get a signal to the capture card with the same cables.

If you get a signal on the screen but not on the computer, could you please try the following?
  • Set the Xbox 360 to output at 720p. The frame rate will (or should) be 59.94.
  • If possible, make sure you capture the video with the same settings on the computer.
  • Try any other settings if this does not work.

If it still does not work, please try this in the same order:
  • Power off computer (and capture device) and Xbox 360.
  • Power on computer (and capture device) and wait until the capture device is properly powered on and initialized.
  • Power on the Xbox 360.
  • Make sure you can capture properly.

If it still does not work, make sure that one or more of the following are not defective:
  • The HDMI-VGA/composite adapter.
  • The VGA cable.
  • The capture device (could be just the input connector).

If that works, please install the HDMI splitter.

I am wondering a bit why you show us the wires inside the HDMI cable. Did you remove the isolation and/or do something with the wires?

I am not sure what else to suggest at the moment.

Could you please tell me/us the model of your capture device, and also the adapter between the HDMI cable and capture device?

Regards,

Maybe this is the case: The Xbox 360 chooses a specific output mode that the capture device likes... But when you have the screen connected as well, the Xbox 360 outputs in a mode the screen likes, and your capture device is not compatible with these settings. If this is the case, I think it's all about finding the right settings on your Xbox 360.

Or, maybe the switch isn't very good. I am not sure.

Then again, some of the first things I read when I searched for that device you have, are things like fakes from China and other problems with them.

I have a BlackMagic Intensity Pro that I use for both Xbox 360 and PS3. Crystal clear image with HDMI from the Xbox 360.

With this card, I have a setup similar to this:
Code:
  +----------------------> (Composite in) Capture device \__(HDMI out)
  |                   +--> (HDMI in) Capture device      /  |
PS3                   |                                     |
Xbox 360 -> HDMI splitter                                   |
                      |                                     v
                      +----------------------------------> (HDMI in) Screen
This is very basic. My actual setup involves an HDMI switch with all the game consoles being connected through it via HDMI, so they are independent from the capture device.

I'm afraid I am not sure how much more I can be of help you. :(

it could be that its trying to use an HD resolution for the TV and the composite device can't support that. You may have to set your xbox 360 to 480p or 480i

I agree with xBruce88x. That's what I tried to explain earlier.

These are the main components I have:
And of course the cables. They don't have to cost much. Cheap ones are as good as expensive ones.

I think the switch is pretty good. The splitter is okay but it does the job, at least. The switching may take a few seconds for me, but it may also be that my screen is slow, or both. The image is crystal clear with HDMI, however.

Since I have a regular PC screen, I have only 1x HDMI input which I use for pretty much everything.

Game consoles > Switch > Splitter > Capture device > Screen
Game consoles > Switch > Splitter > Screen
Computer > Screen

As you can see, I'm one switch short. I could get another cheap switch, but the volume control on my screen isn't great. I need to keep it at 1% and lower the volume in-game by ~60%. Maybe my canalphones are just very sensitive. That's why I am thinking about getting an A/V receiver. Then I'll be able to easily switch between the game consoles, computer and capture device output, and be able to adjust the audio volume with a knob. The only problem I have is that they are large and expensive!

If I didn't make any mistakes, this is how I would like to have it in the end:

In your Xbox 360's display settings, have you tried this?
  • Reference Levels: Standard
  • Display Discovery: Disable - Sorry, I should have asked you to check this earlier. Since it works now, maybe you don't need to do anything here.

Just to show you a sample of a capture I did earlier, here you go:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GVxBKmIuYms

Please make sure to check it out in 720p. :)

I can also upload the original (compressed) video file on request, or capture something else to show you the quality.

Edit: Maybe I should add that while the splitter I have works flawlessly with the Xbox 360, I have issues with PS3. I don't know if this is due to HDCP or the splitter itself. When using the PS3 via HDMI, there is no image on the screen while the 2nd HDMI cable from the splitter is connected to the capture card (when that computer is powered off, at least. Need to make sure when it's powered on).
