Soluto Utility Shrinks PC Boot Times, Fixes Problems

I just found this, after reading my PCW mag. It intrigued me, so I downloaded it, installed it(on windows 7 64 bit... no problems), scanned for virus, trojans, and hi-jacks - it has come up clean.
It asks for a lot of permissions during install (depending on your A\V, firewall and windows settings). The company seems legit.

Now onto Soluto(it is beta software). I tried it, my first boot, gave me 212 seconds - which for my setup is entirely reasonable. I did, however, dis-able a couple of items pertaining to my printer\scanning software and shaved 8 seconds off the time, to 204.

So, the little bugger works. Also, if, you hover around the interface, you can find a lot of info.
It, also, has an info sharing option( you can enable or dis-able it - it has this dis-abled at the install).

I have no connections to this company, so don't ask me about it... read and you be enlightened.
IMO, it is interesting, what are your thoughts.

Please, no it sucks posts, same for it's great posts... unless, you post your reasons with an explanation.

The minimal requirements are:
Windows XP, service pack 2 and above
512MB of RAM and above
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1
(Soluto will install if not present)

works on:
Windows XP/Vista/7 (32bit & 64bit)

I've been using this for months and months I definitely recommend it. It's actually pretty damn neat how it tracks boot programs, how long they add to your boot process and how small of a footprint it has overall.

Or you could just upgrade to an SSD big enough for a Windows 7 and the regular bunch of apps you use and that will be faster then any program that fiddles with your start up n shut down times etc etc

Don't see whats new here if it's just removing bootup apps as i been doing that for ever lol. However sounds good for those who don't know how to..

How ever i'll try it for the sake of trying it and maybe recommend it to others who don't like digging around the services or registry..

It seems to phone home for solution and uses a unsigned kernel mode driver ( maybe to signed after beta ).

Soluto is different then that though. It's more about monitoring what's useful to have in startup, how much time it impacts you by, and it shows you what everyone else is doing, whether pausing it until startup is complete, stopping it from running in startup, letting it roll. It also keeps a track of startup times from initial install, and the graph is very cool, you can track what you installed/removed during that time, to maybe get an idea of what impacts your startup situation. It does all that, and then some, and costs a helluva lot less than any SSD out there since it's free. I also like the UI it presents, it's just easy especially when showing people that dont' know how to remove startup apps in a friendly interface what this is, what it does, etc. Honestly, I prefer it now.

Not many people are willing to buy SSD's given the sizerice. I know Im not.

This is the first ive ever heard of this. Im going to look into it some more. I just installed it. My boot takes over one thousand seconds atm. So we'll see.

Agreed. I personally just cant justify spending $230 for a 1xxGB SSD.

However, i shaved 26 seconds off my boot time using this utility. Thanks for pointing it out!

I think a 90GB SSD works quite well. I got W7 on mine with a few of the apps i mainly use and its cool - all my games are on another drive though. need to work on getting a 300GB SSD for that sometime or later

Actually no, its excellent. I have 80GB For OS and small apps, and 500GB for games, and big apps that i don't use often, that don't benefit from SSD

It would be for me because I install my OS and all apps one one drive, games on another, and backup on another. Id rather not have to install my apps on a separate drive. That's just me though.

Soluto has been updated to Version: 1.2.115.0; and, they still refer to it as a beta.

It still uses a web type installer, now at version: 1.2.39.0.

This thing keeps giving an installation error. It seems not to be able to get needed files from the net during install telling me check my firewall and stuff. Apparently it needs some anti-frustration software itself.

You may need to right click on IE or your browser icon and click on "Run as Administrator"

I find this app to be a bit of a pain sometimes, especially if you crash your computer, which I do a lot... but it really does speed up boot times. With all the crap I have installed, I get like 53sec bootup times on my old crate after using it for awhile....
