I guess this will mean less of a difference of the temp on each core unlike previous x2 cards where one chip dumped heat onto the next in line, to be honest i like this idea although I'm sure there is many complaints coming about the heat it pushes into the case.

I looks forward to the reviews when this finally comes out and greatly as i want to see the card taken apart to look at what AMD has done to cool these chips.

Yeah wait for the 7xxx series.

And then wait how long before a 7990 comes out ?..

and what info would you have to make you think they're coming soon enough to warrant a wait? lol

Well looks like the AMD 6990 won't be out before April & Nvidia GTX590 in mid-March

http://www.digitimes.com/news/a20110225PD207.html

Nvidia is expected to unveil its dual-GPU GeForce GTX 590 graphics card in mid-March 2011 at the earliest and AMD will release its Radeon HD 6990 a month later.

Damn! still another month & half of waiting...

Although AMD has already unveiled its dual-GPU Radeon HD 6990, the company has decided to delay the official launch until after Nvidia launches the GeForce GTX 590 to prevent Nvidia from changing the GTX 590's design after reviewing the Radeon HD 6990, the sources noted.

I had a thought about that - both companies hanging off for as long as possible until one caves in and releases, only for the other one to release a month later and win.

If i were NV PR I'd announce a release date of End March and give out specs, delay the release quoting 'problems' AMD release (knowing the specs of the 590), then Nvidia release after the 6990 with a card slightly suped up from the 590 specs released.

But AMD must figure that out so AMD will soft release their specs so NV can up the game and NV will get caught out cold.

But NV will expect this and so an infinite loop of PR skullduggery means neither card will ever be released until 2099 when Larabee gets released and takes over global IT systems and declares "I is rob0t"

Paranoia will destroy ya!

So is the AMD HD6000 series comparable to what the HD3000 series was to the HD2000 series with the HD5000 series? and if so I sure hope they do with the HD7000 series to the HD6000's as they did with the HD4000 series to the HD3000 series

What ever the case we've got a pretty good idea of the performance of the 6990 will be , seeing how 2x6970 perform in xfire...

I'd advertise a June release, soft specs beginning march, actual release mid-March :D
