Possible CPU cooling problem

Recently, i had to open my laptop up to fix the fan inside, and when i removed everything and replaced it, the heatsink attached to the cpu came off. I rescrewed it back on, but now if i use a cpu taxing program, my computer shutsdown. Would this be because i didnt apply thermal paste under the heatsink? Or is it unrelated?

Yep, thats why! you need to reapply that thermal paste. When its disturbed like that it causes air to infiltrate and get in between, which doesnt conduct heat well. Surely thermal shut down going on
