Hi All

Since i've installed windows 7 my front audio does not work since. The strangest thing is that my front microphone works. The sound drivers for the motherboard is not Win 7 compatible. I've even tried plugging out the pins for the front audio and plugging it back in. It does not show in audio playback sound devices but in recording the front microphone shows and is working 100%
I've even plugged out the rear speakers if was blocking the connection.
Can I please need some help.
In XP all worked 100% no problems
Is there probably a registry entry that i can add the front audio device showing and working again?

Thank you very much
Regards
Terence

Must be driver issue (front jack detection, probably).

Which soundcard are you using? I'm sure there are win7 drivers for it.

Thanks Robal
I'm currently on via's site now...
Here is the list of supported audio chips: VIA HD Audio Codecs VT1702S, VT1705, VT1708B, VT1708S, VT1716S, VT1718S, VIA HD Audio Codecs VT2010, VT2002P, VT2020S, VIA HD Audio Codecs VT1812S, VT1818, VT1828S

The VIA VT1708A is not listed here...Should it make a difference in sound chip versions?

I suspect there's no driver difference between VT1708A/S. You can download and try it.

One more thing to check...
Since (maybe) you're new to Windows 7. Have you checked setting in your "playback devices" ?
In windows 7 (opposed to XP), HD codecs' front panel connector audio is treated as an independent sound card. (so you've got two cards in your system: "rear speakers" + "front headphones").

It's possible that your FP audio IS working, but not making a sound, because it's simply not enabled, or rear-output is set to be default for all programs.

Cheers,

I know windows 7 all to well Robal...And I've checked the sound devices...it's not even showing...And i've got show disabled devices selected as well as show disconnected devices. Still nothing is showing...but microphone is working 100% at the front.

i guess its the driver err, recognize its not mean it would work. it just a mark that the system recognize the hardware and mostly installing the right driver.
what kind of windows that you install, is that with sp1?

I've installed sp1 when it was released a few weeks ago or month...Got Win 7 Ultimate...but i'll test the driver from via that Robal referred me to. Been running win 7 for a year now.
