when are we going to see ddr4 dram for computers?

its Gddr 5, its completely different from DDR3/4 etc and is actually a heavily modified type of DDR2

Edit: boss is right but the point remains that the number just means there has been more versions, and nothing else, the reason we don't have DDR4 is because its not ready yet and also because we don't need it

From my limited understanding gddr can work at higher frequencies and tighter timings but using more energy and being more prone to errors compared to ddr memory.

sorry to deviate off topic here... but i HIGHLY doubt that the mayans could've predicted the end of the world..

Whether this is good or bad news is still open fro interpretation, but one thing is for sure – according to the research, the end of the Long Count may come in a decade or a century, or may have already happened.

DDR3 has latencies that easily equal those the best low-latency chips of DDR1, like Winbond BH-5 could do at best. And DDR3 does that at nearly half the voltage while producing multiple times the bandwidth.

Example:
tCAS7 @ 1000MHz (DDR3-2000) = 7ns = tCAS2 @ 285MHz (DDR1-571)

tCAS6 @ 1000MHz (DDR3-2000) = 6ns = tCAS2 @ 333MHz (DDR1-667)
tCAS6 @ 1100MHz (DDR3-2200) = 5.45ns = tCAS2 @ 367MHz (DDR1-734)

^ what they said. what matters is the latency it operates at, not the latency of the timings.

roflmao. I had 2 gigs of ddr2 1200 running @ 1200 cas 4 and i get better bandwith with my 4 gigs @ 1800 cas 7. GG breh
