there is no risk, no big deal. the worst that could happen is another blue screen but you can go again in DOS with another card and reflash the initial bios.

there's no point in trying that now. Belle already tested the HIS IceQ X TurboX bios and it seems it does not work on reference cards. The only thing that works and has the highest clock rates until now is XFX Black Edition bios. I guess we will stick to that.
Also Powercolor has made a PCS++ Gold with 970 and 1150. Let's wait for that, maybe that one works.

Try to put your 6870 in the second PCIE slot and switch in the BIOS onboard graphics to "on" and detect first "onboard / PCIE".
