It seems like the 6950 would of been the better buy. How are the 6870s in crossfire? I suppose I could redeem myself by getting another.

6870's are great in crossfire, and no at your res you should have no problems with most games anyway

6870's and 6950's are very close in terms of performance. No you did not screw up. And at your res 6870's in crossfire will do very well. Also they scale like a bat out of hell. You can also overclock them easily and meet a 6950's performance.

IMO I say no you did not screw up. The only down side to them really is the resale value. Which will be lower of course to the 6950's. But honestly don't worry about enjoy your card or cards when it happens.

I went from two 6870's to two HD6950 1gb and now to two GTX 580's. The performance gains from the 6870's to the 6950's were minimal until overclocking. But at your res and stock you should be able to play any game out there really. On high settings with most AA enabled (exceptions Metro 2033) But even crysis should do okay up to 4xaa

If you get two of them Stock for stock they will be about as good as two 5870's in crossfire and scale probably even better. Plus better tessellation.

I would only say you "screwed up" if you covered some slots that you could have used for other things if you just had a single 6950. :p

What a single 6950 won't be as powerful as two 6870's what does that have to do with anything??

I just read your post wrong never mind... for some reason I thought you were comparing two 6870's to 1 6950 by saying "Why use up two slots for two 6870's when you could just buy 1 6950 and be just as good?"

Like I said I took it way wrong my bad.... Thats why I was saying what??? How is that possible???

My bad Again that is what I get for reading half assed sometimes

Great in crossfire. The scaling this generation is fantastic in many games.

A pair of 6850's actually. Not in all games of course. They definitely spank the 480 check review here.

520w is a bit low, but it should work since your only using a 95w procesor

erm... why would you want to spend £400 getting a gtx 580 when for £200 you could get an extra 6870 and get the same performance?

Sounds like a plan. Crossfire is definitely a very attractive choice this generation and I love my powerful $300 setup. And no one running 1920x1200 or less needs more than a single 6950 anyway. So two 6870s is an excellent choice for a bit more bang without wasting your buck on GPU horsepower you can't really use outside of benching.
