Are you using this with headphones or speakers (if so, how many? What kind are they and how are you planning on hooking them up?)

Of all of those I've heard that the forte is the best but AFAIK newegg doesn't carry them anymore. If you have a receiver with HDMI in on it just use the digital from you vid card and you'll have real good sound. Or, if your speakers have a TOSLINK, you can run digital out of your motherboard directly to them that way, which will be better than analog from any of those cards (99% of the time)

My forte does no such thing, nor has it ever. This is actually the first I have heard of it.

I highly recommend it if you are using headphones regularly.

Optical is not superior to analog from a high quality sound card for 5.1 setups. The only way optical can output a 5.1 channel signal is if it's encoded to a compressed format, like DTS or Dolby Digital. High res uncompressed 24bit 48 or 96khz tracks like TrueHD or Master Audio have to be compressed down to get 5.1 over optical, thus losing quality.
