Last I checked 2K4 was still booming online. Of course you have to deal with all the fucking retard botters. UT3 was always pretty dead online.

Yep, 2k4 is going strong, I might reinstall it now that you brought it up.

UT99 and UT3 are not as active, but people still play those, cant say anything for 2k3 as I never owned it.

2k4 was a replacement for 2k3, just the same game but improved much.

2k4 is the most popular, UT3 might have a random match or 2 going but it was never popular to begin with like the other posts have said. I know kinda repeating whats been said.

I know I really can't believe there are any servers still much less populated ones after like 12 years. But people still love that game and places like Old Unreal have kept it going with further patches and content and tweaks etc including a DX9 renderer iirc. There are coop, reg DM and Infiltration servers that people still play on.

I'm installing 2k4 right now. It is by far the best of them. Heck, it's mostly the reason I came to TPU in the first place. Needed to build me a UT 2K4 rig!

DX9? I play UT in DX10 baby. There's also an updated OpenGL render, but I've never tried it.

What we should all do, is plan a UT2K4 gaming night!!!!

Also a kick ass mod for UT2K3 and UT2K4 is Death Ball. Kind of a hockey type of mod, but just a frigging blast to play!

IMO UT3 is a great game in its own right, but 2k4 was still too popular when 3 launched - it was only 3 years old - so few people cared to move on. On top of that 2k4 came with tons of content to make up for 2k3 being shallow.

UT3 is more a "Vista" ...with patches, "Titan/Black" service pack and a bit more powerful tech to run it the game polished up pretty smooth.

As for the original question: 2k4 still has players though the popularity of Quake / Unreal type FPSs has gone. Unreal always has great bots for a bit of fun.

I was kind of surprised, was on playing last night, and there are still quite a few servers running all of the time for 2k4.

We all should really get a game going. Someone with great internet speed could host a locked server and pm the tpu members the password that wish to play
