nVidia or AMD for 230$

Though i'm waiting the day when NVIDIA adds something like MLAA to their cards. MLAA is one of the reasons why i haven't even looked at NVIDIA cards at the moment. I just went straight away to AMD sections in online stores and bought HD6870. NVIDIA did announce something similar, but no one really knows when that will actually arrive with retail products. For some of us edge smoothing is just top priority over everything else. PhysX is ok but it has limited usability where MLAA just works everywhere.

Or he can just get the 560 ti and get a better card for his situation. Remember the rules that apply at 1920x1200 and up do NOT apply at lower resolutions at all. At his/her resolution GTX 560 ti is actually faster than HD6970 so even if he unlocks the HD6950 he would be getting a lower performing card. GTX560 overclocks better than HD6970 too, not better than 6950, but better than 6970 or fully modded 6950 (SPs and 6970 clocks) yes. And let's not start talking about F@H...

What does it matter? at lower res he'll be maxing them one way or another, and once he upgrades his monitor he has a better card?

And let's not start talking about F@H...

Or perhaps we can start with F@H, notes that the 6950 is absolutely shyte in this scenario, OP wants to do folding, recommend 560Ti and call it a day. People who recommends the 6950 are either not fully aware of the situation (as I was earlier this thread) or just diehard AMD/ATI fanboys. Seriously, why is this tread still on? I am looking at you, n-ster. You should know better.

Yeah, you're completely right and I should have started with that.

OP already said he will not upgrade the monitor. When someone says that it means that he will not upgrade his monitor.

And who's to say that he would have a better card when he upgrades the monitor? By which standard is a HD6950 better? According to most reviews, it is faster (at high res) on games now, which is like saying that it is faster at playing DX9 console ports, which is not to say that it is the best card in an absolute sense. In 1 or 2 years, when he'd upgrade the monitor, DX11 and specially tesselation could easily be the norm in which case the GTX560 ti would obliterate the Radeon in a badly almost ridiculous way.

yea well F@H is the side kick along with gaming in priority. The current card which i have is MSI's 9600GT factory OC'ed and its going on upto the mark till date. I will definitely go with the Twin Frozer design for 560Ti.

I didn't read the thread at all and didn't know he was going to fold or not upgrade his monitor :nutkick:

In which case, he could spend less if he wanted to, depending on how important F@H is for him

My bad :ohwell:

In which case, he could spend less if he wanted to,

That's what I thought at first too, maybe a 460 better, but then I remembered Crysis, Metro and I could not help but think there must be more and more games in the near future that take advantage of a faster card regardless of resolution, like it happened in the past, in the glory days of PC gaming, when games were not console ports based on 10 years old APIs that could only benefit from fast cards based on how crazy you go with your resolution and AA. Then I realised 560 > 460 and if money is not a problem, I think that 560 > 460 even on a price/perf basis (at least here) so why not take the fastest card.

It be cheaper and better to buy a card that will satisfy him for 2 years, then again another card that will satisfy him for 2 years, then to buy a card that would satisfy him 3~4 years usually, but this generation's mid cards at 200ish$ are really good, so I'll have to agree

I totally agree on that strategy and it's the one I follow, but I think that currently GTX560 ti gives more for the money and does not cost a lot more. Maybe it's only here but the cheapest 460 I can find on retail even today is 150 euro (which is little less than I paid for mine), but I've seen one or two 560's for 180-190.

if it was me i will take the MSI N560GTX-Ti HAWK, the Gigabyte cards ain't that stable we have read that even here on TPU ^^;

and about the Saboteur if u play it in 16:9 like 1920x1080 the in-game map is fucked or it is at my pc, and if i connect a 4:3 (1280x1024) or 16:10 (1680x1050) monitor with the same drivers and all that it's fine, so i guess it's a game bug :<
