Why not HD-DVD?
By 2010 there will be infinitely better HD-DVD players then today current Gen1/Gen2. Much cheaper, much faster with many more features. Point is, it's not something to worry about at all.

Still, the current HD DVD Add-On for the Xbox 360 is the best out right now, compared to the Toshiba offerings.

It's not a big deal for me becaues my Aquos accepts the 1080p signal through components - however, I wonder how well games will perform at that high of resolution. My PS3 has such a bad framerate w/ the games that output 1080P - however, the 360's graphics card is apparantly twice as powerful. I guess we'll just have to wait and see!

Yeah, people need not worry about the alleged HDMI upgrade. VGA will output 1080p, and if you don't have an extra VGA input on your HDTV, just buy a VGA or KVM switch, they're cheap as hell. Besides, most of us normal people don't have a 1080p capable set anyway.

Why not HD-DVD?

If the Xbox 360 HD-DVD addon is component only, then its not really an HD-DVD player because it cant play anything abt 480p. Thats bullshit.

I think you have your Component and RCA cables mixed up. Component cables are the Red Green and Blue cables - which are capable of outputting 1080P. RCA cables are the Red White and Yellow cables and are only capable of outputting 480i.

The HD-DVD Add-On is connected to the Xbox 360 by USB, but is still viewed by whatever your Xbox 360 is hooked up by. So, it can be VGA, Component, or the new HDMI.

And yes, some HDTV's are capable of accepting 1080p through component. But for the Xbox 360 (not sure about PS3), only games can be played at 1080p. If you have the HD-DVD Add-On, you can only view 1080p HD-DVD's through VGA (or the new HDMI), but not Component (only 1080i).

Oh yeah, you can't upconvert DVD's to 1080p with Component, only VGA (and HDMI).

Do you guys think they'll release the 120GB Hard Drive separately? For us early adopters?

I personally think they almost definately will. People aren't going to get a whole new console for the 120GB drive, so M$ will probably make more money buy selling it to everyone.

I'm only partly mad/annoyed by this though. I could've used the HDMI, but it's not like it's going to hurt using 1080i, but it wouldn't be bad viewing HD-DVD Movies at 1080p either (if I got the HD-DVD Drive). And if it is the same price, then the 120GB HD is damn good and a cooler CPU, so it won't get as hot. But, I guess I can still do everything the "Zephyr" 360 can, just a little hotter, and no 1080p (unless VGA), and less HD space (which I can buy later).

I would expect them to release the cables for the original at about the same time - it seems unfair to force people to the new console to get 1080p when the hardware is already capable of it, but I suppose it is M$ so who knows what they'll do. The Wii only has 512MB of storage and that's all I think consoles should need tbh, but they are getting more and more like PCs and starting to need a hard drive to access in game.

Just that the Xbox - more or less - needs the HDD for all the videos, demos, arcade games, new maps... you can download.
