I've finally decided to ditch the 4870, but I'm having difficulty choosing between the GTX 570 and the 6950 2GB, since both look like they'll give me plenty of performance over the next 2-3 years.
On the one hand, the 570 outperforms the 6950, but the 6950 can be unlocked to have a 6970 core, and also has the advantage in VRAM (2GB vs 1280 MB), which closes the performance gap remarkably. It is also cheaper.
On the other hand, almost everywhere I look is out of stock for unlockable 6950s, and an overclocked GTX 570 performs on-par with an OC'ed 6970.
The cheapest stock 6950 2GB I can find (in stock) is AU$320, and the cheapest GTX 570 is $350.
Keeping in mind that I'd be unlocking the 6950, would the GTX 570 be worth the $30 price difference?
Alternatively, I could order a cheaper non-standard 6950 2GB for $300. $50 cheaper than the 570, and with a more effective heatsink it could out-clock the stock 6950.
tl;dr, Should I spend extra on a 570 instead of unlocking a 6950, or keep to my budget and buy a cheap non-unlockable 6950?
