The Eurocom Optimus line are performance-oriented business and gaming-friendly notebooks based on Intel's Sandy Bridge technology with discrete NVIDIA GT 555M graphics and longer battery life thanks to NVIDIA Optimus Technology. NVIDIA Optimus technology intelligently optimizes your notebook PC, providing the outstanding graphics performance you need, when you need it, all the while extending battery life for longer enjoyment. They are built around the Intel Huron River HM65 platform and support Intel's mobile line of Sandy Bridge Core i7, i5 and i3 processors.

The Eurocom Optimus line consists of two products:
  • EUROCOM Fox 2.0 with 15.6" Full HD display 1920x1080 and measures: 14.96x10.00x1.00-1.61 inch; while weighing a slight 2.6kg / 5.72lbs.
  • EUROCOM Lynx 2.0 with 17.3" Full HD 1920x1080 display and measures: 16.52x11.1x1.0-1.66 inch; while weighing 3.1kg / 6.82lbs.

Both models support up to two, 2.5" storage drives for up to 1 .75TB. The second drive takes the place of the optical drive. Up to 16GB of DDR3 RAM are supported via dual memory modules. Also a choice of Blu Ray Burner, Blu Ray Reader or DVD-RW are available. There is also wireless WLAN and Bluetooth options available via internal Combo WLAN+Bluetooth module. A THX TruStudio Pro sound system gives the Fox 2.0 and Lynx 2.0 the fullest surround sound audio experience for games, music and movies while remaining true to the source and intention of the artists who create it.

The EUROCOM Fox 2.0 and Lynx 2.0 Optimus powered notebooks offer the best of both worlds in terms of power and mobility. The systems are very thin, light and have great battery lives while also offering great NVIDIA VGA performance . These are the perfect systems for both enterprise computing, and/or professionals or students spending time away from the office because they are easy to carry around, have a very long battery life and offer serious performance as well.

EUROCOM Fox 2.0 and Lynx 2.0 are designed as performance professional -business and/or gaming notebooks. Being fully configurable and easily customizable allows IT organizations and/or individual users configure their systems to meet their operational, performance and/or application requirements.

Both EUROCOM Fox 2.0 and Lynx 2.0 models support Intel HD 3000 integrated graphics and NVIDIA GT 555M discrete graphics with 2GB DDR3 video. The system allows the user to switch graphics automatically or manually. NVIDIA Optimus technology is great for business professionals and gamers alike due to its dynamic switching ability, offering users two levels of video performance in real time. NVIDIA Optimus technology allows users to choose different performance levels within the same system, which contributes to improved battery life and energy efficiency. NVIDIA Optimus technology allows IT managers to purchase one line of systems with different performance levels for multiple functions, resulting in more efficient IT manageability.

Some thoughts of a end user / prospective customer. :banghead:

Screen:
Nice matte non glare screen = immediate sale or shortlist product.
I hate the glare idi-osity of most laptop manufacturers, just like Ipad useless with more than 75w light equivalent.

Video card:
Is there a option for a better video card, basic entry level pda / mobile phone video cards like 6970m or 485m otherwise if 555m only then I can buy a Dell laptop = 555m not upgradeable = deal breaker.

Can you actually do anything except word and flash youtube with the 555m video card ?

Wifi
Killer wifi would be a great option, no MS products as I was forced to purchase, (15 XP + Win7 dvd's / keys) and still running linux most of the time.
Why is everyone offering the intel junk wifi ?

Budget laptops
Why this budget $899 laptops when Eurocom is supposed to be Gaming laptop / performance laptop. Surely Eurocom is not know for a 555m 17" pda like Apple is known for.

Decent cpu's
Why is there no i7-2600k desktop of mobile cpu laptops, why the old HM65 ?

I am already thinking twice about p67 / i7-2720QM / 6970m / vertex3 as being old and under powered and should I buy or no,t now this old "newly released" makes me wonder why is the laptop market in such a poor state of affairs ?

I need to upgrade not downgrade from my 3 and 5 year old laptops. :banghead:

Just a few points / questions I have had to explain to many people that might help Eurocom and other laptop manufacturers catch up to at least 2003 - 2006.
Same reason why I refuse to buy Apple as they have not built a laptop since the G4 and I am not in the market for a 17" irritation / 17" pda.

I travel so I need a desktop replacement that is 16"-17" not a Ipad that I curse every day for being so stupid as to buy. It is always plugged in unless of and stowed away.

PS> can this laptops do anything like 3ds max or folding or linux development / source compiling or similar for $1200-$1500 ? :toast:
IE: 2720qm + 6970m + intel 67 chipset = $1500, ssd vertex 3 or corsair force 3 $1500 total would be ideal.
Nothing out there is worth paying more for unless a desktop cpu and xfire in a laptop.

Hope this helps with next product launch and NO I will not use cloud computing, no security computing and have my cloud account hacked again and all data lost.
Local pc power is perfect and always will be so local game server or no sale for a new game.

Yes, I have a gt 335m in my m11x and it does a fairly good job with games, so the gt 555m would be much better. Review: http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GT-555M.41933.0.html

Be careful when looking at the GT555m, there are two models:

1) 144 Shader, 192 bit memory interface with GDDR3 memory (1.5GB) - as fitted to the M14x

2) 96 Shader, 128 bit memory interface with GDDR5 memory (1GB or 2GB)

http://www.nvidia.com/object/product-geforce-gt-555m-us.html

The latter model will be slower in real world gaming (assuming the rest of the laptop is the same).

Oddly this laptop appears to have the latter model but with GDDR3 memory instead? That would make it a mere clock bumped GT540m.
