Not true at all. I'm using two 1gb cards, both unlocked. The easiest thing to do is to save the bios from the card, put it in RBE, tick the box to unlock the shaders, save the new bios and flash it.

After you booted up with new bios did you need to reinstall your drivers ?

EDIT:

It seems that my card has modified voltage by default, its showin 1.175 under load on default bios instead of 1.1 so i think i dont need to raise my TDP for the card to work properly :)

I'll be flashing again and reinstalling drivers after i get back home and ill post up the results, wish me luck so i succeed with flashing :)

I already explained abpove why ppl were saying HD6950 1GB versions aren't unlockable. But now there are enough BIOS-es and even tools like erocker said so it is possible. It's all down to luck if those shaders are functional or not.

the reason the driver dosent complain is because the driver sees 69xx not 6950 or 6970 if i remember correctly it sees the gpus family and bases decisions on that the driver will work but you wont see the changes you made untill you reinstall. eitherway it only takes 5 fucking minutes to install a god damn driver. and i dont really see anyone else offering a way to potentially make the shader count show up if it successfully unlocked.

reinstall the driver then run GPU-Z still no unlocked shader? then your gpu cant be unlocked case closed.

Well it looks like my card does not have the additional shaders, flashed my bios, reinstalled the drivers and gpuz is still showing 1408 shaders. Im going to go and reflash my card back to original bios now. Atleast i have the voltage of 6970 so i can oc this gpu in the future to some nice values.

Thanks for help everyone.

You came to this conclusion all on your own then?

Didn't work on this card anyways, bummer. No big deal, it really doesn't make much of a difference. :toast:
