Recheck all of your connections. If they are good and the problem persists it's a faulty PSU. Yes, yours and any other ATX standard PSU is compatable with your motherboard.

Check if you have plugged in properly first, I thought my Coolermaster Extreme 460W was junk but it turned out the extra 4-pin plug to the motherboard was not connected properly :( (although the on switch is pretty faulty because once you turn it on, you can't turn it off back to the O :D)

You guys just to conclusions too fast. Take it apart and start testing. First the PSU. Just short the green and black and plug it in. Google the wires to short just incase there not green and black and then do a bench test with just the basic parts. You probably have a short or the HS CPU is not seated correctly. however that PSU is known to go bAD

For us to know if it is the motherboard, it might be a good idea to post the actual type you have. This sounds vaguely like a P5 reboot issue.

Ah, I didn't notice that that weird string of characters was supposed to be a motherboard model number.

Anyway.

First try resetting the CMOS. Then, try booting with only 1 stick of RAM and disconnect everything else except for the optical drive. If that works, add your HDD and see if you can boot to your Operating System.
Then, add the second stick of RAM. Keep adding components until it fails again.

Hi

It may be the onboard VGA, if the issue occured after fitting the gts 450

did you remember to disable your onboard VGA? settings are in your bios. when you fitted your gts 450, you will have needed to boot to your bios setup and disable the onboard.

reset your bios and try again

try to unplug the psu and leave a while
then re plug it again and check all the connection
but it looks your psu is bad, usually it happens on shortcircuit condition
so better re check again, if you aint move or add any hardware in your cpu, i guess the problem could be from your psu
if that just RMA it

It happens all the time. You get PSU's, HDD's RAM, CPU's all from reputable brands but turn up DOA. It's just a luck of the draw and completely normal.

When you turn the PC on and it turns off; does it turn itself back on afterwards?

Don't know. It could be this:
Say, for example, that your mobo or GPU is defective. Your new PSU has protection built into it which shuts it down when something becomes unsafe. Your old cheap PSU doesn't have this protection. So it could be a defective component triggering safety protection in your PSU.

When you turn the PC on and it turns off; does it turn itself back on afterwards after 5-10 seconds?

First thing you should do is test the PSU as Jetster said. Remove all PSU connections from your PC (very important) and unfold a paper clip.
Turn off the PSU at the switch/wall plug and get the 24-pin motherboard connection. Stick one end of the paper clip into the green wire. Then stick the other end of the paper clip into any black wire.

Turn the PSU on at the switch/wall pug and see what happens.
If it stays on, then it's working. If it shuts down after a few seconds like before, then it's broken.

Remember to remove all PSU connections from the motherboard (if you leave the 4-pin CPU connection in you will fry your CPU. If you leave the 6-pin plugged into your GPU, you'll probably fry that, etc. etc.)

You can go here for the whole guide.

interestingly enough I just had two corsair psus that had to go back for rma (purchased 2 weeks apart). I could power them on using a paperclip but they wouldn't power on a machine.
