Which phone? Sprint Plan

I get a new phone at the beginning of the month and I think I have it narrowed down to these 3. They seem to be the best Sprint offers. Which one do you think is best?

HTC EVO 4G or the Samsung Epic™ 4G or the Nexus S™ 4G from Google

As much of a Samsung fanboy I am, I'd go with the Nexus S.

I would also have to go with the Nexus S even though I'm also a Samsung fan. My cousin just got the HTC EVO 4G and it is a 3D phone from what I've seen. However, not a SUPER AMOLED screen, it still looks good. But the battery life has something left to be desired, VERY bad battery life from what he told me. Not to mention that the Nexus ships with 2.3 Gingerbread and has a very purty screen with weighing a lot less than the other 2 competitors

i've got an evo and the battery life is good actually.

you just need to tweak the settings a little bit. I go on average 3.5 days in between charges,
and it's my only phone - and i use it for music, tethering, etc. it also has hdmi out.

it's just a crazy sleek, powerful phone. I love it

as far as super amoled, i haven't seen one so i don't know how to compare

I like the Nexus, but I am just worried about it being from google and google pulling their normal tricks of keeping ALL your data

google has access to all your data with any of those phones, doesn't matter if there's a third party middleman. the nexus s and the epic are pretty much the same hardware wise, minus the storage capacity which is compensated on the epic by the inclusion of the sd card.

all manufacturers are slow getting updates out to their phones, including both samsung and htc. with the nexus you won't have to rely on samsung/htc for updates. i'd go with the nexus s

Woopsy...I was actually talking about the EVO 3D...totally different from the 4G....the 3D has a 1.2GHz dual-core...which is why it sucks so bad on battery....it might be different on a previous EVO or the 4G

What makes you think that most companies don't do that now?...remember Apple's stupid escapade a month or so ago with the GPS thing?

i already own 2 android phones the gt 540 and liquid a1 and i can only say, take the nexus. Why? Well the OS is from google and the phone. You will always get the lastest updates without trouble and you dont have to worry about not getting a newer android version. The best ist there will be many custom roms for even more smothness and so on.

I vote Evo 4G, HTC has amazing phones and build quality.

Nexus S is a great alternative.

Funny, I tried the SGS and the iPhone 3GS and I found the 3GS smoother. Personal perhaps. The best phone I have came across is SGSII, but that was the only dual core phone I have come across. Its much better than SGS (and to some extent, you can infer Nexus S = SGS). Would recommend SGSII or one of those dual core phones (which receives good rating), or flagship phones just before dual core if you are planning to save a bit.

I've got the EVO 4G and my wife has the Nexus. Really, you can't go wrong either way.

The one complaint on the Nexus is you can't use Sprint Visual Voicemail (the app). If you want Visual Voicemail you need to set up Google Voice. The integration between Google Voice and Sprint is supposed to be pretty good but we had a bit of a hassle and gave up.

3.5 days is pretty reasonable if you use your phone that much, especially considering it's a smart phone (power hungry little bastards ).

I will not buy a smart phone however, as long as the power efficiency and batteries don't improve sufficiently. Because the more often you charge, the earlier the battery will "age". In fact that is the main reason for having a Samsung GT-C3300i now, as the battery of my previous phone was starting to give issues (as to be expected a bit , after ~4.5 years, lol)

Also, just found out that the Samsung Within is rumored to come out in July. Would that be worth waiting around for?

I do like the HDMI option on the HTC, does the nexus s have anything cool the HTC doesnt?

HTC Evo 4g hands down. This is coming from a heavily tweaked Moto OG Droid owner.

apparently Sprint does not support Nexus S 4g ... is it that bad?
I get Android 2.3 on Nexus S and 2.2 on Evo ... will that be a big enough difference to get past the non 4g?

Sprint's 4G coverage AFAIK is spotty at times anyway. Digibucc may need to chime in with this (only other Sprint user I know).

Well, IMO, I would take Froyo over Gingerbread on all of the current hardware of smartphones UNLESS it has dual core. To me the only thing GB has going for it is better battery life on most devices.

4G is nowhere near ubiquitous, though it is in many major cities. tbh though, It's not something
I use even when I am in a place where it is available. I do not do much video streaming other
than the occasional youtube video, and i am on wifi most of the time for that.

as for froyo/gb , theres not all that much difference. GB was really an update aimed at all
the new android tablets that came/are coming out. for smartphones it doesn't really make
much of a difference, imo. I am using a custom rom (Fresh Evo) with GB, and other than a
few inconsequential things, it's not too different.

Yeah it can be sporatic but Sprints throwing up new WiMax and LTE towers every day. Coverage will only get better.

Sprint will let you use custom ROM's? I thought I read somewhere some companies were bricking your phones if you had custom ROM's on there.

How easy are these ROM's to install?
