I use two Vertex SSDs, none has failed as of yet. Granted I use a 64gb and a 180gb SSD, and not the 120gb model.

Its pretty straight forward, really. No night and day difference to your usual HDDs.

Thought I have never even touched a SSD I do know that the vertex series is very good and reliable. I'm sure that if it doesn't work they will RMA it.

I think his gripe is not with the RMA/warranty part. His gripe is that if it's unreliable, he can't store important things on it, and should always be prepared for a crash.

Well shouldn't you always be? You never know what could happen, I have been updating windows and the power went out randomly (we had a tornado and the power would randomly go out while the restored it to everyone). I always suspect that I will loose all my info so I back everything up on a 750 gig drive

This is why for important data I still use HDDs. I only store my OS and some apps one one SSD and all my games on another. Everything else goes to a HDD; its not that a Word document profits from an SSD anyway. And remember kids, if its important stuff, save it multiple times on various memory types. My most important stuff is on a HDD, on a server, on an external HDD and on a SD card.

You can rebuild your music or movie library at the cost of some time and bandwidth, but you can't replace those special pictures of your ex.

Of course you should, but then when you have the allegedly bad reliability record of this drive on the back of your mind, you'll develop an OCD to keep things always backed up, rather than depending on periodic backups.

This is what everyone seems to do, and he is right, all of those games of steam you can get back, but that report that matters for %70 of your mark you should back up several times as you should with all important files. I already seem to have backup OCD lol, to the point where I backed up all the floppy drives I will never use.

Anyways to stay on topic, the Vertex 2 series is decent. I don't have the drives for too long, a couple of months, but they never acted up and my initial fear of failing drives vanished with time.
I wasn't too sure about SSDs either, but now that they've been running some time (mind you 24/7 for months) I trust them. Well to a certain extent. Pictures of my ex still go to the HDD.

If I was asked yesterday, I'd of said they were good but since then my Vertez 2 60gb died on me and after reading many posts on OCZ's forums it seems to be a very big problem with these drives, something to do with standby/sleep mode killing them. Go over there and read up on them and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Oh, backup your important files often! I "ASS"umed these were reliable so I didn't as aftem as I shopuld've. I used mine as a os drive with a 1gig wd black for games/other but I still lost my email contacts/internet favorites and other stuff that was semi important but not as bad as it could've been.

My only question is why Vertex 2? Unless you've only got SATAII which makes sense. I was considering this model myself, but as with you I've seen more places than Newegg with complaints about these (including OCZ's forums), so I'm going to stay away.

From the review section of my local shop it seemed that those drives either die rather quickly or last a long time. So a 50/50 chance if you will. Also note that some of the complaints were due to older firmware. The newest models of the Vertex 2 are more stable than the early ones afaik.

OP if you feel the likely hood of the SSD possibly failing is going to hang over your head from the time you start using it then it's best for you to ask if you can return it and get something else for peace of mind.

i ordered this ssd
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=6371305&CatId=5300
the reviews on tiger seem to say its a good drive but after i ordered it i looked it up on newegg and the reviews there are bad a real high failure rate. i hope i don't eat it on this one

I actually saw them on sale at Newegg the other day and ordered 4 for my office, since it was 4/5 eggs and a sizeable number of reviews. But then I went back and read them and the device seems very hit or miss. Either or works, or fails pretty fast. I ended up cancelling the order and going with something more stable.

It seems to me that threads like this are better unwritten. If you know you're going to buy something with a sketchy track record anyway wouldn't it be best to just use it and hope that it works instead of getting a bunch of conflicting answers that make you unsure of your purchase?

Regardless of what everyone has said, he can not be bothered with the fees for returning the product and is just going to use it.

So the thread was pretty much pointless from the start.
