I am running a Q6600, 4850 1GB, 1 7200RPM HD,2 2GB DDR2 all on a 400W PSU. I completely stressed the PSU (LinX + Furmark) and the system was completely stable

400W FSP PSU, I think I bought it back in 2006, still running like a champ

yea but a quality 400w is way different from a 400w masquerading as a 600w,

example we all know the older CX 430 from corsair could handle gpus easily even if your forced to use an adaptor but it had a solid 12v rail,

the psu in this rig 15amps 12v1 and 14 amps 12v2 6pin power comes off the 12v2, and from the looks of things with a 125w cpu, he would hit the limit on 12v1,

FSP is a solid brand

4850 also has a board power of 110w vs a 4870 at 150w for the 512mb versions

basically put this looks to be a prime example of a cheapo unit not able to push the power rating i mean come on its a 600w unit that only puts out 348w on the 12 v rails lol the most important rail only pushes half the psu rated wattage.

Tell him it shipped working and he broke it, and get out of the situation.

Yeah i did tried that several times. But just being polite or telling what i can.

I told him to ask the tech forums about it.

He also said he did CLR CMOS , he got it running with one stick of ram idk , or 2 kingstons won't work ... i have no idea genuinely because i don't have the PC in front of me.

but as far as i know, im done here. I wanted to help before when i thought the GPU was the problem, now im backing off.

Yup, you're absolutely right. You kept your end of the bargain and made an honest sale, so you owe him nothing.

I've had buyers try to suck me into their unrelated tech problems just because they bought something from me. I said no.

Who knows maybe installing the GPU for that one time over stressed the components in his PSU and caused it to become unstable under load.

Just recalling a scenario I had at work with a troublesome customer.
Installed a new GPU in his PC, his friend decided to update the drivers and bork the system big time and then claims the GPU destroyed his system.

Apparently he had a "tech" from Dick Smith Electronics (a big Australasian franchise) work on it for a whole night to get it back up and running with no success and blamed it on us.
Even to the extent of getting on the phone and verbally abusing the boss in hopes of getting some sort of refund lol.

Turns out whatever update his friend did ruined his OS, and the PSU died under stress around the same time and I did mention the PSU may not be up to it and may possibly be looking at a new PSU.

Was expected as he has dirty power due to living out in the country and was running a Hyena power supply at the time.

Anyway you have gone beyond the call of duty on your end.

He will need to find a tech or store close by who will test the card for him.

btw i don't have access to bestbuy or newegg around here, if they even have physical stores ?

possible, but i don't do online payment, atleast not yet , i don't have any such businness that i would terribly need it.

I simply pay the postman when a products arrives, and that happens ... once or none times per month, 100% hacker safe though :p

found something like this, locally http://www.cool-pc.org/artikel/1258/cooltek-tester-plus-rev-2-preizkusevalec-atx-napajalnikov

Think this is the supposed '600W' LC6600: http://www.lc-power.de/index.php?id=45

40A on the 5V and 35A on 3.3V? Smells fishy.

You should be glad you didn't sell the card over ebay, it would've mean a huge loss.

yeah, those amps are weird indeed

i don't think ebay operates in my country yet and again i do not practise online credit payment.

i sold the card on a local tech forum which has a "small sells" subforum, it's more popular around here since many times a buyer happens to be in my city and i can sell the product on the same day in matter of hours. Online credit card paying population is a very minority around here.
