Hi everyone!

I really need advice here on to what PSU should I buy and whether should I get a new cooler for CPU. This is my spec.

Motherboard: P5GC-MX/1333
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E7200 @ 2.53GHz (2 CPUs)
Memory: 3448MB RAM (4GB)Apacer UNB pc2-5300 CL5 2x2GB
HD: Samsung HD250HJ
DVD/CD RAM-writer: Sony optiarc dvd rw ad-7200s

As for GPU, my 8500GT finally crashed, I'm still thinking to buy either of these:
HD: 5770/6770, 5850/6850, 5670, 5570
GF: GTX550Ti, GTX460 1GB, GTS450, GT440

As for my CPU, also thinking to OC it to about 3.2GHz, raising the FSB from 266MHz (1066FSB) to 333MHz (1333FSB) and locking the vCore to 1.35V. Do you think the CPU fan that comes along w/ it is enough or do I have to buy a CPU cooler.

These are the CPU cooler available in our area
CoolerMaster V10, V8, Jet4, Hyper Tx3, Vortex Plus
Thermaltake Frio OCK
Antec25 H2O
Gigabyte G-Power Pro

Power Supplies:
Hec Cougar CM 500W, Rapter II, Raptor Green 500W

Thermaltake litepower 350w / 600W, TR2 W0379RU 500W / TR2 W0093RU 500W
Acbel CE2 500W
IMaster Pro 600W
Cougar RS 550W
Intex 600W ACCOPIA DUAL FAN POWER SUPPLY
Across ATX 500W
FSP Supersonic 500W
Heatpipe Cooled 500W

Power Supplies Not Available in Our Area That I'm considering To Have
Antec VP-450 450W
FSP HEXA 500w
Corsair CX430 V2
XFX Core Edition Pro 450W
Antec NeoEco 520W

NOTES:
0. I'm not techy person. I've tried to read all the guides about PSU here, but I'm having a hard time swallowing the information. I'm getting information overload! Please as much as possible make it as layman as possible.

1. we're not to discuss what GPU is best for my current PC spec since it's already discussed in one of the threads. I'm asking what would be the PSU to buy that could handle all of these GPU.

2. Also if you think I need a new cpu cooler, please select one before choosing a PSU.

3. It doesn't matter to me if I need to buy a molex adapter, but since you're the masters/experts, I need advice if it's advisable.

4. After you've picked your choice from the "available PSU", please compare it to the "unavailable PSU"

5. Prices doesn't matter on those items listed since all of them are w/in my budget

Thank you for all the feedback!

The stock heatsink may be enough for a 3.2 OC. I built a system with a e5200 for a friend that I OC'ed to 3.0 and the stock heatsink kept that CPU within acceptable temps. I don't think you'll need 1.35 volts for that OC though. I had a e8400 that I had OC'ed to 1700 fsb(3.8ghz) and it only needed 1.32 volts IIRC, and my current Q9650 only need 1.31 for a 4ghz OC.

As for the PSU, I havent heard of most those brands you listed. I THINK(keyword here) FSP is a good brand, but don't take my word for it. Get the best PSU you can though. Your PSU is a very important and critical part of your computer as it is the only part that if it fails, will problably cause damage to other parts of your system. Think of the PSU as the "backbone" of your computer.

Thanks! Actually it's a friend of mine who told me to put the CPU on that OC settings.

I don't have sufficient money :(

Any input on my current PSU: Zeno Power(model) - 600W (sticker). Is it enough w/ my current PC w/o doing any OC on CPU and my GPU is only 5670, 5570, or GT440

That's a very low-end and generic PSU, the wattage will be enough to power the machine. But if you plan on doing any overclocking or upgrading in the future you should definitely go with a more reliable brand.

If you're not doing any overclocking then it should be fine as long as the components are not stressing such a PSU out.

Not in the near future, yes! What actually I need is a GPU, many people advised me to have 6770 or 6850, but the pre-requisite is to OC my CPU and buy a branded/trusted PSU.

So you're saying as long as I'm not going to OC, and just have either HD 5670, 5570, or GT440 GPU, my current PSU can handle it?

You may be able to OC those cards a bit since they don't consume much power in the first place so your Generic PSU might be able to handle that, but still, if you're planning on playing modern games that will stress your system out, it's better to upgrade. As lower end/generic PSU's are generally not built with strong enough components to handle stress for a long amount of time. Generics are really only ok when your system isn't going to be constantly loaded up with a lot of data to handle(load), cause then that stresses out the PSU.

So basically, if you don't overclock and you're not planning on loading up heavy games or programs, then generic isn't so bad. But if you're gaming or using heavy programs(Photoshop, CAD work etc) then you will definitely want to upgrade your PSU to a better brand for stability.

Ooopps, I might have included in the first post that I'm going to use my computer for three purposes:

1) Watch / streaming movies (not really as movie theater), just personal watching
2) Edit photos such as adobe photoshop)
3) Looking forward to play games such as Starcraft 2, Assassin Creed Brotherhood, Diablo 3

Use a psu calculator and choose a name brand psu.

COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 Plus RR-B10-212P-G1 "Heatp...

Great cooler for the price. The TX3 should suit your needs though.

Stay away from the Silenx Extreem 120mm cooler. The fan mounting sucks and it's a pain in the a$$ to mount and dismount the fan.

The TX750 is onsale for $99

CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX750 V2 750W ATX12V v2....

or this for under $50

COOLMAX CXI-600B 600W ATX12V ATX 12V v2.2 SLI Cert...
Yeah, I read a lot of good reviews on Hyper 212+ the only problem is the availability. I'm not techie so I'm going to purchase the parts in the shop and have them OC and assemble everything.

TX750 is way over my budget.

Yeh I saw your list. That's why I mentioned the TX-3 would be an affordable solution for your CPU. Jetster apperently agrees. :) With a higher cfm fan the TX-3 will work a little bit better. Maybe you could put a little money towards a better/larger psu with the money you save on a cooler. Unless your shooting for peak overclocks, there's no need for a 120mm cooler on a E7200 cpu anyways.

You might not want to spend the cash on a shops time messing with overclocking if they'll even do it. If your having them do the build you can leave it at that. There's alot of people on TPU who would help walk you through the BIOS and it's settings for overclocking. All you'll need to know is how to reset a cmos. :)

Yeah, thanks for that advice, it seems like it's settled for the HSF, only PSU remains.
Regarding w/ OC'ing, I asked if they could assemble the parts for me, they said yes, though I'm not sure if they're gonna OC my CPU though. But if not, I think I'll just have to earn it my way.

I know how to reset CMOS, but the problem is about BIOS, I don't have floppy disk drives and none seems to sell that now. :ohwell:

WOW! Thanks for you time for this. As what I've mentioned before I'm not techie so I'm not confident that I'm gonna be able to assemble the parts on my system. Also the shipping cost would also be an additional burden.

I'm going to include these items on my list just in case they're going to stock these.

What shipping cost? Are you from the province? If not, then you can either go pick-up the items directly in their shops or meet-up with them. Many of the sellers among the links have stalls in the TechMarket at ETON Cyberpod Corinthians (in front of Robinsons Galleria) until August 15, so you can pick the items from there.

Lahat naman tayo nagsimula na "not techie" eh. If you keep on avoiding doing things like this, OF COURSE you would always be "not techie."

:ohwell:

Why would you need a floppy drive? The bios configuration is done in the bios which is accessed by pressing the delete key during post. Sometimes F2 (or something else) depending on the board. Once inside you can use the arrows to navigate the menus. It's safe to go in there and look around. Familiarize yourself with navigation. If your ever unsure of something you may have bumped or changed, or being asked something you don't understand, just pull the plug. No changes will be saved. It's actually easy to work with a bios. There's a handfull of things you'll need to know about overclocking but a basic overclock isn't very hard. Like I said, There's always someone here to help you.

Yeah I live in Davao City, so it has shipping cost. I'm really not confident, I might assemble it correctly and crash the parts making me say "bye-bye" to hard-earned gold cash
THough, you're correct. I must learn how to! Thanks for the advice :)

Oh, I thought you're referring to flashing BIOS, my fault sorry. I was able to find some guides on how to OC, I'll OC it myself (but that would be my last resort)

Thanks for all the advice :)
