Well your CPU is limiting the GPU, so you're not going to be in the top echelon of 580 benchmarks. That's just a fact. Just look at your CPU/Physics scores compared to the GPU scores. Your score is not *bad*, but it's not the best. Be glad you're not one of the people on this chart that scored under 5,000.

Looking at you score here, your 3D scores are fine, but the Physics score is low...most likely due to your CPU speed, naturally, because your 3D scores are a bit above the average.

Probably not possible with a 5850 and that CPU. That would be pushing it. My top score with a 6950 2GB and a 4.2Ghz i7 950 w/HT is around 6400-6500. That's like a super high top score too. My high score today was 6361 with that card unlocked and CPU. I just don't think you could get near 6K with a 5800 series card and an AMD CPU.

i was actually quite dissapointed till i refreshed my memory of which hardware scores what...

i cant wait to build my new rig in a couple of weeks...

That's a nice score man. Push your CPU higher if you want to get even more out of both. I could be wrong though, don't know how much better that cpu will get from more OC'ing. I thought those could go over 4Ghz pretty easily, but maybe that's the hexacores?

If you're just gaming though, don't bother OC'ing anything any more than it is. You should be getting great performance as it is judging by that score.

Rip you? Your CPU isn't powerful enough to compete with top 6970 scores.

My top 6950 2GB unlocked score is 6400-ish, but that's because I'm running an overclocked i7 950 with hyperthreading on that machine.

cpu makes quite the difference for 3dmark, if you take a look at the 3dmark 11 thread in the general software forum you'll see that there is only 1 dual gpu ati rig with a higher score than my 480 sli. It's dual 6950's unlocked and further overclocked (even at that they can't match my gpu score) but the cpu is an i7 2600k at 5.4GHZ which is enough to carry it's overall score to 11,500 which is just over 500pts more than my 10988.


in the end 3dmark is a poor judge of your system's capabilities, games are much better judges.

We're talking about your overall score man. I'm sorry if you misunderstood. The score is based on CPU, GPU, and CPU+GPU. So your score isn't top echelon due to your CPU lacking.
