Its not hard. AMD CPUs like tight RAM timings more then anything. So tighten those up and OC your NB. You will see a big jump from doing that.

Anyway why do you need to OC? Are you running multiple GPU's or encoding?

If you are running a single card (460) and mostly what you do is Black Ops then I honestly do not see a reason to OC. It has a benefit no doubt but only in a few situations.

1. Software has pushed your hardware to a limit it can no longer sustain at stock clocks. Your last ditch effort to squeeze performance out is to OC and save some money.

2. You are an enthusiast and like to get speed wherever you can. Games really don't matter where benches do.

3. Your rig is for folding or crunching.

None of these really apply to you from what I can see. Chances are you would see a better jump if you OC your GPU.

If you are running a stock heat sink then its perfectly normal. If you are running an aftermarket heat sink then its a lil high but 100% safe. 55c is as high as you wanna go.

460 is not my area of expertise. Its an Nvidia chip called (Fermi) and they tend to be hot. I am not sure how well they OC but if you can keep the temps down she should be good to go. I would start another thread in the GPU section asking for help to OC a Nvidia 460. Lots of Nvidia guys on this forum that can help. Guys like Sneekypeet will help ya.

Bah 62 c is still ok. Just let the cpu run it's turbo mode for gaming and up the NB to 2800MHz and get some good memory sticks that will allow you low tight timings. ppl running 1333 cas 9 sticks have rocks in there head imo. Im using 1600+ mhz cas 6 sticks... Hit me up if your looking for a cheap low lat set.

62c is high and will expedite electron migration (Degrade the chip quicker). Can it run? Sure. It can even go higher then that before it begins to throttle. However AMD said max is 55c before damage is done. Do you really think its a good idea to give a complete noob on OC the advice 62c is ok without him knowing the risks it involves?

Why do you say that out of interest? I've run both and noticed no difference whatsoever but I'm genuinely interested what it affects in terms of gaming/everyday performance?

its mainly maxxmem/everest that it will show, but once you know-you got to do something about it right?
62c is too hot imho,a fan or cooler upgrade wouldnt be a bad idea(and its cheap!).
Scaminatrix got a cheap and decent cooler you can find in the for sale thread.

Everything is/feels Snappier @ cas 6 then cas 9.
cas 9 is slugish but cas 6 is like nitro lol.

I dont play around with high latency sticks... When testing the same stick @ lets say 6-6-6 vs 9-9-9 the 6-6-6 feels way faster. I really don't know what else to say. I just choose faster low latency sticks but that's just me. I'm not sure what system your running but amd run way better with a low cas and high NB freq.

I stand corrected. I remember reading an old white sheet that had it at 55c. 62c it is. :toast:

I just saw it yesterday, I can't remember where I clicked the link; it was the white sheet from AMD with overclocking tips and explaining how to adjust different settings, and the maximum temperature was 55c.

Well, then I guess it isn't good when my 1090t went to 72*C when I had my Zalman cooler. It really wasn't sustained for that long; I shut down the test when it got that high. I haven't noticed any problems since then...

It's not going to hurt them! Just dont run it that hot for long. The chips anti blow up device kicks in and starts to retard so no harm comes to it. 72c is getting close to my 100+c I hit a way's back... the cpu still lives to this day :rockout:

Its to an extent. CPU's throttle down when they get to hot. They will even shut down before any major damage is done.......in theory. However when you do go that hot damage can and will be done. Its unavoidable. The extent of that damage varies. Length of time and quality of silicon is what makes the difference. Some can go for a very long time super hot and last years. Other only a few minutes. My advice? Don't push it that far. I don't like to play chicken with my CPU's.

Unclewebb wrote a whole article on it.

I was running my 965 BE on 62C for like 2months on stock cooler, because I was too lazy to switch out the to the new heatsink, but saw no performance decrease over the period of time, eventhough I several times looked up that it shouldn't get past 55C

Have run my memory @ 1866Mhz with 6-8-6-22-1T and also @ 2000Mhz 7-9-7-24-1T and have honestly not noticed any real world difference.
Maxxmem shows that 2000Mhz was the better of the two though.
