Cheap PSU's

Do you really get what you pay for?

I've always purchased cheap and cheerful PSU's but i've recently been recommended spending a bit more....

Well aslong as the cheaper one does the job you want it to do then I see no problem with buying a cheaper one, the only problem you run in with cheaper ones is ofc limited life. With most things in life the more it costs the better you expect it to be( not always mind you ).

Dependant on the budget, if I was spending a greater amount I wouldn't consider putting in a cheaper PSU, but that's just down to personal preferance and a habit of mine.

There's "cheap" and then there's "CHEAP". One may be cheap, but is reliable and from a reputable brand. One may be cheap, even cheaper most of the time, but is from an unknown brand, or a brand known for being unreliable.

If you're going to be cheap on PSUs, do some research at least. Maybe "cheap enough" PSUs would be enough.

Hiya m8! To answer a question in the OP: There are different power supplies for different types of uses and for those uses sometimes you have to go the extra budget for them. Say a dynapower 500W with 2x 6950's or a Corsair HX850 on an HTPC with integrated graphics. It's a case by case scenario.

Sorry had to clear that up a bit. Hope you don't mind and don't take offense.

The biggest issues with El Cheapo PSU's is not their lifetime, but their lack of safety features. Any PSU can blow up if you try hard enough (fabrication errors are always possible), but a good PSU shuts down before it blows up, so it doesn't launch uncontrolles spikes of energy through your expensive hardware.
