My asus crosshair v is p.o.s / an bad suport

so i have had this board for about 2 weeks now an im not happy at all

first off the bios is total crap an has many problems [like mice/fan plugs/missing temps]an the bios is so fuc*** slow

then it has 2 fake pci-e 16x.s this board only has 2x pci-e x16.s the other 2 at 1x an 4x
so thats bullshit

fake xfi sound [is rilly a shitty realtek audio chip][using real xfi extream music card ]

intel lan driver crashes windows[so i heard]have not noticed this myself]

allso has south bridge chip set problem [running 2x ssd.s in raid crashes system on stock SB volts]

so i called asus 3 times today an nothing they just keep telling me to call back

so i am about to say fu** asus for ever

any ideas guys or am i fuked [im hoping they can fix some of this crap but theirs alot]

newegg states that facts on the PCi-e slots.. and that's common for any boards... did you even upgrade or swap the bios's to see if maybe the board had a bad bios? or even a undated one?

Can you list what you have done to try and rectify these problems?

Raid problem: Did you install raid drivers? Did you install your South Bridge drivers?

As CS mentioned, check the specifications on the PCI-E slots.

Onboard sound sucks: All too common.

Update bios?

Ram stable?

Run any other stability tests?

ill be honest i dident check the pci-e specs when i got it but the board looks to have at least a 16x 8x 16x 8x setup from the front its just deceiving

i dont rilly plan to run more then 2 cards any ways buy y use 4 full size slots just to mess with ppl i guess

rite now im using bios 0506 soon to try [0705 wich is the newest one]

i havent rilly had much stability problems other then the [SB]voltage

its not the drivers when going from 1.200v [SB] to 1.250v [Sb] stopped all the crashing/bsod.s

that was the only real crashing prob i have had the rest is just annoying
i was useing 3dmark05 cpu test.s for stability

its running rock solid rite now
4139mh @30c load 1.400v pII 955be
ocz rpr 1600 @1666mh 8.8.8.20 1.6v
boards doing 250 fsb with [SB volts at 1.3v

ill try the 0705 bios tonight an see what changes

It's hard to say that the board was misleading on pci-e lanes.. if you look at the factor of anything more then 3 slots, without looking into the board it self, your ether going to get a 4x slot, or 8x.. research on the product before a buy would end with it telling you that.

Sorry to say, but hell.. it took me a few mins to find out pci-e slot on the board..

I suggest to go with Erocker's suggestions...

ok so for the fan prob i just plugged in a random slow fan that has rpm reading the fixed that one

the bios seams to work fine if i only have kb an mouse plugged in nothing els

fake xfi disabled lol that one fixed

the intel lan problem i haven't had but im using the drivers that came with my windows for the lan so that could be y

an the raid problems stopped once i changed the SB voltage [yes all raid/sata drivers were installed]

i dunno exactly what info your looking for

youve done well most issues fixed then, theyll bring out a bios for that and to be fair that type of mobo is ment for tweekin allways read the labels dude , my m8 who dosnt listen to me bought a i7 950 and z68 i think asus armour mobo then bought a 1gig 460gtx togo with his 2gig 460gtx which didnt work and he then bought another 1gig 460 to sli, the problem is the soddin slots are so close his gpus are boilin(well 1 of them) look deep into that mobos eyes peeps Is it gona do the job

Dude, go to the monitor section in BIOS. Hit enter on the N/A listed for the fanspeed. A menu should pop up allowing you to "ignore" the port.

PCI-e: well... read specs...
Intel LAN: I've heard it was a plague years ago... it's fixed now.
SB chip and SSD raid BSOD: It's most likely SSD's fault. Are these SF2k based ? These cause a lot of trouble.
F**k ASUS: Well.. I've said that in the past. About Asus... then about Gigabyte.... then about MSI... My personal conclusion it this: "if you expect product to perform well and up to spec... it's YOU that is f**ked... "

I've switched around major MB vendors, looking for "the one" that doesn't suck... well... they all suck. Some suck a bit less than others though.
I'm sitting myself with Asus Sabertooth 990FX, waiting for the FIRST bios update to fix silly bugs, that make my life hard...

thank fully this board has good room for 2 duel slot cards to breath well

ok so if it was my ssd.s then how come they work just fine now with SB voltage of 1.3v instead of 1.2v

i think the 400-500mb speeds was over loading the chip set so it needed a lil more juice

Right, the manual talks about the "tri-sli/crossfireX" that the board supports.. But, if you look at the Specs Sheet it shows that the 4th lane is 4x due to the fact that it's not "SET" to be a quad based system.. Set for Tri, and if you go crossfireX, you have Physx lane.. Or, 4 lanes for Crunching/folding.


They are not lying to you about their specs.. It's just you got to "understand" what your looking at.. You have a Tri-Sli/CrossfireX board, with a extra PCI-e 16 lane that will run at 4x.

that whole thing about raid and stuff with te south bridge has been known for a while and seems the default voltage is not enough. most poep;le are bumping to 1.25 to 1.27. PCE-e well uhh read up on specification before buying??

i did alota reading before buying this board i mean days worth cheaking pci-e layout power plug placements the fact it has 3x temp probe plugs sata layouts an rog connect of corse [this board had the best layout for me

outa all the 990fx boards i cheaked ][i cheaked out gigabyte msi evin biostar has one lol][evga an xfx seam to have gone an all intel route

but yeah i missed the damn realtek sound an the pci-e specs there was something else to [oh yeah SB cooler is basically a block of aluminum no fins lol] it stays cool but still that's cheap

not a big deal thow like i was saying i dont plan on running more then 2x vid cards so im still all set

im hoping the 0705 bios fixes something lol guna flash in a few mins

so im trying to update the bios an the stuped asus software wont install no mater what i try so i gota reinstall windows on a nuther drive an do it that way

[im not reinstalling my raid drives just for a bios update lol]

so it will be a hour or 2 but ill get it updated

flash BIOS from within BIOS; no need for software.

There is also a patch to fix the installation issue. NO OS re-install needed at all.
