What are you doing with the PC? If you do any math or excel, then IT WILL BE SLOWER!!!! The AMD is rubbish in the ALU.

If you are gaming, then you will see a small improvement, but not worth it IMO. (my guess is less than 10% improvement in FPS, since probably limited by X800xt, etc. Plus a big headache to reinstall OS and all apps, etc.)

You might want to think about an X1950 Pro. If you are gaming, this will probably give you a better performance improvement. You can also migrate this to a new mb and Core 2 in the future.

P.S. Where do you live. If you want to dump the ASUS P5GD1-FM I could be interested.

UM no more like 30-40 percent faster if he overclocks the video card and the cpu. A Pentuim D is alot slower than a Amd 64. He also has a very fast video card, as of a year and a half ago it was the fastest thing on the block and can still handle almost anything out except shader 3 big deal!!!! Hes doesn't have a x800xt he has a x850xt which will overclock to a x850xt PE without breaking a sweat. Also at lower resolution the x850xt clocked to PE speeds can keep up very well with the newer big boy video cards especally in shader 2.0 games which are still the most numerous. Here is an example of how well it does in a year old or so review
Also I realize none of x1900's are in this review but a x1800xt will kill a x1900gt and in some games will beat a x1950 pro aswell so its a good comparison. Look what it does to a x1600xt and imagine what it would do to a a 7600gs and 7600gt. I believe its faster than x1800gto x1800xl ,x1900aiw,7800gs, and 7900gs at moderate to high resolutions so its buy no means slow at all. Also only since core duo has AMD been slower in math prior to that Amd was the king of math equations. Also the AMD64 4000+ has been known to go over 3.0 ghz on air and is similar to a FX chip in make up. Check out tattyones speeds in science mark 2.0 benchmarks

Are you smoking crack or something? His PC 'WILL' be improved by getting the A64 4000+ !!!
The Pentium 4 is a piece of crap and everybody knows it!! He uses his PC for gaming and he will benefit from the A64 CPU.

Steer clear of the 3rd one, the ASUS A8R-MVP!!! I had one and its a stinker, its full of bugs!! ie random resets, settings not kept after shutdown etc!! Get the CrossFire DFI LanParty

I would advice that you get a dual core cpu. AMD 4400+ x2

Well if it don't work, you know why!!!

Never clean a CPU unless you are removing thermal paste compound, they are very delicate, a small amount of dust or discarge of static can kill it!!!

Come on bruv, anyone with common sense will tell you that it is unwise to clean to the extent of removing the serial numbers, look at the picture yourself, you can see streaks.

I've actually killed a few processors in my day by storing it in dusty environments, storing it in heated environments, and forgetting to take anti-static precautions.

JUDAS3, lets face it, what would you achieve by cleaning a processor fresh from the factory unless it was to remove paste?
