The ASRock 970 Extreme4 is no different than the Gigabyte or Asus boards when it comes to PCIe functionality. Even the overall slot selection is the same.
Basically it comes down to your preference for UEFI or BIOS -- think about how long you plan on having the system... if you're going to be buying another system in a couple of years, it won't matter which one you pick.
But the UEFI will simplify your overclocking chores.

Which Gigabyte or Asus board for the same price? I see totally different PCIe structures.

id spend the extra get the Asrock 970 extreme

its got SLI AND CROSSFIRE on 970 chipset its the cheapest board out there that allows sli and crossfire at x8 x8 in terms of features it cant really be beat and its price is pretty close to $100 aka $109

none of the other boards offer the features this board does.
Asrock as UEFI bios SLI and Crossfire support etc

Gigabyte board is using old school bios aka no UEFI, has 1 PCIe x16 slot and in general just dosent have the features to match.

ASRock 970 EXTREME4 AM3+ AMD 970 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3....
I'm using that MB since 2 weeks ago and I'm happy with it so far.
It has a lot of features for its price, 105$ when I bought it.
Haven't try OC with it but planning put a BD on it.

agreed i do believe post #26 cant read and his eyes are full of shit lol

x16 x4 no sli support

crossfire on x16 x4 works for low end gpus higher end cards its not it does cause problems and bottlenecking,

so no there not the same, trying reading the actual info on the boards and find me a Gigabyte Asus or MSI board that offers SLI / Crossfire with x8 x8 lanes for $110 you wont you know why? Asrock is the only one that offers it lol

its all good its in good fun.

thus why i posted the post # not the name, :toast:

but yea pretty much for its price point Asrock has the market cornered,

Asrocks only problem is there still seen as ASUS, knock offs the red headed step child, etc etc of the big bad beastly motherboard maker, when in reality Asrock was one of the first alongside MSI to push out PCIE 3.0 motherboards and in terms of price and features pretty much kicks everyones ass right now from $90- 200

uh whos the top main three

because as of a year ago

Asus #1
Gigabyte #2
Asrock #3

if you think MSI, EVGA, etc were number 3 then you were sadly mistaken.

and ive had no issues with Asrock had there motherboards take lightning strikes that have fried psu and gpus but the boards just keep on going lol

as far as warranty goes there same as any of the others they were actually easier for me to deal with then Asus or MSI

had MSI straight up deny me warranty coverage before that took weeks of fighting to get them to cover and i still had to pay for shipping.

as of now Asrock is #3 in the world

they grabbed some of EVGA and Gigabytes design teams awhile back, and since there no longer under Asus they can actually compete in the high end which theyve done so extremely successfully.

it goes without saying if you buy a cheap ass motherboard your going to get a cheap ass motherboard

but on the AMD side of things i can say i have never seen an Asrock board catch fire while MSI 790fx boards do indeed catch fire when overclocking lol as well as many of there budget boards, where asrock boards dont... so in retrospect id say Asrock has a better track record then MSI when it comes to motherboards and it seems they have a better track record then EVGA as well, when it comes to design choices and reliability. but people tend to stick to a select couple of brands most of the time.

and tell me suraswami does warranty really matter? most of us overclock, which means day 1 we put a rig together 99% of us on here have voided all are warranties to begin with so the companies dont have to do jack shit for us but they do anyway lol

i can say ive used ever vendor out there for motherboards all have lemons, its the nature of any consumer product.

AsRock = #3 is news to me. lol way behind in following tech now a days.

AsRock has 1 yr warranty or 3 yrs?

Never had issues with Asus, Gigabyte or MSI for warranty claim. Best warranty processing is Biostar though.

Like you said I am seeing some good design from AsRock, next time I might try their board.

since he only wanted to spend 100 ish dollar , here is the cheapest board with 8+2 VRM phases.

www.amazon.com/GIGABYTE-GA-970A-UD3-AM3-SATA-Motherboard/dp/B0055Q88EO/

quality board overall

I saw that board, in my incessant quest. :D

What about these three? I've upped my price a bit, I guess.

GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD5 AM3+ AMD 990FX SATA 6Gb/s U...

Although, this isn't bad for the money.

ASRock 970 EXTREME4 AM3+ AMD 970 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3....

any of the 990FX boards will do you fine i would take the Asrock just because the sabertooth board looks like poop.

Gigabyte board is good as well but no uefi means i will personally stay clear

ECS Biostar etc all at the bottom of the barrel for motherboard market share at least have UEFI bios Gigabyte hasnt stepped up yet there starting to but there still lagging behind.

so id take the Asrock same features as the Asus and it looks sexier,

That's probably what I'll end up getting in a couple weeks. Asrocks' red and black will go perfect with my case, and the rest of my room. I've got kind of a red-and-black theme going on.

Its futureproofed for bulldozer, and I can do crossfire on it. :respect:

Or ASRock 990FX Extreme3 AM3+/AM3 AMD 990FX SATA 6Gb/... Sorry I am a stickler for overpriced, why pay an extra $50 when the lower priced part would do?
