Can my PC bring GTX560 into full play?

the parts you listed are OK,

Just be a man and change the damn OS to 64Bit.

While the tone isn't what I would aprove of, the message is correct.

I would recommend springing for a 64 bit OS, given that the amount of 16 bit programs you see today is more of a statistical anomaly than a real concern. As the 64 bit environment has reverse compatability with 32 bit, you're likely to notice very few problems (if any).

Additionally, this is a good time to upgrade OS and system. Older hardware is problematic when it come to finding 64 bit drivers. Windows 7 has made the leap to 64 bit very easy, and the expanded access to system resources is refreshing (especially in games).

If you're not sure about 64 bit you can always set up a dual-boot system...

Ya, I will definitely get a 64 bit win7 ..sooner or later

But I wonder if it actually matters at this moment since I have only 4gb ram right now.
And i am not going to spend on DDR2 ram ....
So without the upgrade of MB (and RAM), will the 64 bit OS help to improve performance?

You guys are really helpful...No such detailed answers I could get on the forum in my own country. :respect:

So I have a GTX560 ti now.
Let say I have a budget of around $500-550
Which MB , CPU and RAM (and maybe HD) should I spend on to match with the GPU?

Are below parts okay?
Is there any waste of function or rescource considering I am using win7 32bit?

ASRock Z68 Pro3
Intel Core i5-2500K 3.3Ghz
Kingston Hyper-X DDR-3 1600MHz 4G Kit (2Gx2) KHX1600C9D3X2K2/4GX

Kick ass combo you have chosen. This will serve you well!

Also as others have mentioned, Switch to windows 7 X64 (home, pro, or ultimate doesnt matter) this will allow you to use you ram properly

No. If you're going to stick with the current board, then keep the 32 bit OS. What I meant was that when you upgrade to a new system a 64 bit OS is pretty much a given conclusion.

Was just reading this thread and thought I may as well ask.

Current specs:

Mobo: MSI K9A2 CF
CPU: AMD Athlon X2 5600+ oc'd to 2.9Ghz
RAM: 4Gb OCZ (4x1Gb) DDR2
GPU: GeCube Radeon 3870 512Mb
HDD (os): OCZ Vertex 2 60GB
Monitor: Samsung SyncMaster P2450 24" 1080p
OS: Windows 7 x64

After playing the BF3 beta at 1024x786 (I think), with most settings low, I found the game ran very smoothly. Obviously it was choppy at points, but generally very smooth. I know that graphically it wasn't the best (still impressive).

My question is, by upgrading the GPU to a 6870, would I see a massive improvement in FPS/performance? Or would my system be held back by the CPU/mobo/ram?

Am I simply due a new system? I was hoping to wait till early next year for an entire system upgrade, thinking that with the release of the next CPU's, prices would drop.

That's also my concern
When will Intel cpu's price drop?
Has anyone heard some reliable rumours?

Gigabyte EP43-UD3L
E7600 core2duo 3.06ghz
Kingston DDR2 2GBx2
GTX260 DDR3 896mb

Yes I plan to upgrade the card for bf3 and I expect nothing more than averge FPS with medium or even low graphic quality.
Do you think it will work if I change my card from GTX260 to GTX560?

And what will happen if I don't remove my GTX260 and insert a new GTX560 and they work together? Is it possible? Will it bring better or worse outcome than using GTX560 only?

Thanks so much for helping and suggesting

Your DDR2 ram should be fine. You have 4GB and that should be enough (he said avg settings not balls to the wall max settings guys)

you can use both GPUs, but they won't run in SLI. If anything you could use the gtx260 for dedicated physx (i dunno if BF3 supports that tho)

Your CPU should be ok for Med settings (some even at high due to the 560) depending on res.

and here are the requirements:
Minimum requirements for Battlefield 3
OS: Windows Vista or Windows 7
Processor: Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz or Althon X2 2.7 GHz
RAM: 2GB
Graphic card: DirectX 10 or 11 compatible Nvidia or AMD ATI card, ATI Radeon 3870 or higher, Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT or higher.
Graphics card memory: 512 MB
Sound card: DirectX compatibl sound card
Hard drive: 15 GB for disc version or 10 GB for digital version
Recommended system requirements for Battlefield 3
OS: Windows 7 64-bit
Processor: Quad-core Intel or AMD CPU
RAM: 4GB
Graphics card: DirectX 11 Nvidia or AMD ATI card, Nvidia GeForce GTX 560 or ATI Radeon 6950.
Graphics card memory: 1 GB
Sound card: DirectX compatibl sound card
Hard drive: 15 GB for disc version or 10 GB for digital version

according to http://bf3blog.com/battlefield-3-system-requirements/

BTW, I'd go ahead and get a 64bit OS if you keep your current board... why? Becase with 32bit windows you are limited to 3GB memory. (this usually includes gpu ram as well) so you'd end up with only 2gb or so of usable system ram on a 32bit os. You'll need 64bit to use the full 4gb you have AND the 1GB gpu.

you can get a core 2 quad and OC if you decide you want higher settings.

Edit: when a dev puts at the Recommended requirement, that is not necessarily for the best uber high settings. Its usually for "HIGH" spec.

edit 2: what i was trying to say above... YES a 64bit OS WILL help performance since you will be able to use all the ram you have... do me a favor... right click my computer and go to properties and tell me how much system ram it says you have. (just want to make sure is all ;) )

Athlon X2... hehehe I used to have one of those... nice CPU... :)

Buy the GPU, it will be a massive improvement in gaming, even if it bottlenecks a bit, and, since you are planing to do an entire system upgrade next year you will have massive improvement now, and after you upgrade you will see another big improvement.

Ya.. i have bought that already.
And I think it bottlenecks quite a lot, since I have only around 3x FPS with low graphic setting, though it's playable to me.

Intel i5 2500k is having my interest.
According to this list, it has one of the highest values (performance / price) among the modern CPUs.

Buying 6870 will not help for BF3, because the game generally runs like crap on anything less than a quad core regardless of video card. A friend has a 5850 (slightly slower than 6870) and it ran like absolute sh|t on his Core 2 Duo processor, even on low settings! Only when he upgraded to a quad core i5 the game ran very well at high settings, no lag. Considering that my friend was running only 720p you'd have absolutely no chance at 1080p with the CPU bottleneck.

In short, throw in a Phenom II X4/X6 if your motherboard supports it.

I feared this would be the issue. My motherboard can support Phenom II but only 95W CPU's. I would rather wait till a system upgrade (full). Ill see what happe

That is a good thing, 95W means less heat.

Stick in a 95W Phenom II X4/X6 and you'll be able to max out BF3. If you're doing an entire new build look at the Intel Core i5 2500K or i7 2600k.

At 95W I think the Phenom II x4 is your best option. The few X6s that are 95w are clocked well under 3GHZ and this will affect performance in games that are not as well optimized for 6 cores. So a 3ghz X4 should do nicely, I think anything higher than that will put it over 95w. Or you could get a higher clocked Athlon II X4, since they don't have the L3 cache they don't heat up as much and as such can be clocked higher while staying within 95w... unless you want to wait until the next complete upgrade.

The 2500K is the better option if you're a overclocking noob as you can increase the multi rather than the FSB with most motherboards hate.

As BarbaricSoul said, do the OC in the bios, not in software.
