Bow I would think in Onalaska you could pick up several channels from either Portland, Olympia, or Seattle with a good antenna. Of course your not going to get the Speed channel or Scify LOL

Benchmark Scores Meh benchmarks.
Most web sites offer a pared down version of what is on the air, but they definitely do have lots of offerings there. Same is true of Hulu Plus and the others. It's hard to beat broadcast TV for live programming, however, so for example, if you like to watch sports, the only place you can really get a decent look at a live local game would be via antenna. Personally, I don't watch a lot of TV, so I just have an antenna on my roof connected to a USB tuner connected to my PC. Full DVR functionality with Win 7 of course, but I am limited to what I get on the 12 channels or so that I receive. The price can't be beat, though.

Your kidding all those annoying ads all the time shiiiii. Netflix don't have any ads in the programing it offers.

Even Hulu is better than the TV as you select what you want to watch when you want to with less ads and none of that over the top volume on the ads as well.

soon tekie, soon. I too would either like to pay by the station or usage. I got 74 channels plus a few HD local stations, and I seriously watch 3-4 of them.

A build your own cable package would be awesome. I wish providers would offer that though it would royally tick off the stations who don't get picked very often...

I do believe there is talk in the air of the web wanting to offer such a service, but I do believe it was the FCC who had the biggest issue with that sort of offering.

How can anyone live without the Sci-Fi (SyFy) channel?
The "B" grade movies they make are total awesomesauce !!
I think they've done a "giant animal/insect" movie on about 95% of the known species.

Those are D grade movies. The Evil Dead is a B movie. If you've watched any of these syfy movies (not just the commercials) you might have noticed they're not actually funny bad, they're sad bad. They could have easily been funny bad, but they didn't even put enough effort into it to be humorous. For them it's just make crap, cash check, regurgitate wrestling programming, cash check, cancel original programming, cash check.

CM 4228HD w/ CM 7777 Pre-Amp! Custom 18' Mast! and about 35 HD and Digital channels to go with it all free.

I built my own antenna as I needed a fringe range unit to pull in stations from Philly. (I live on the Jersey shore).

It works and works pretty well when conditions are right, but if it got wet, the signal would get crappy. As a satellite user you probably already know about this.

you can check out antennaweb.org to see what stations are available in your area.

Also a clearQAM tuner works well even with BASIC cable (last I used it at least) as I was able to pull in all the FTA HD (fox, ABC etc etc and TNT) channels without paying extra for it. Different services and locations way change that however.

EDIT: Being in WY though I doubt OTA will help you very much

A build your own cable package would be awesome. I wish providers would offer that though it would royally tick off the stations who don't get picked very often...

That is the problem, the providers can't offer that. The channel networks have pretty much forced the cable providers to offer bundled package. If the provider provides one channel from a network of channels, they they generally have to provide them all. If you want Discovery, the Discover network forced the provider to also make you take TLC, Discover Health, etc... Even if you will never watch those other channels, the cable provider doesn't have a choice in the matter...

I just have to jump in this thread to add.

Onalaska, WA is a intensely beautiful area. They also have the Firearms Academy of Seattle there, which is an awesome place to learn to shoot.

I secretly desire to move down there, but I don't know much about the local economy.

Hulu, NetFlix, and IceFilms Plus the HD channels I pull in over the air and The Clear Qam channels I get from cable via my Internet Connection= nothing lost....The simple fact of the matter is I still pay $100 a month to get all that....So am I really saving....I say yes because My Internet bill is $80 and I was paying that before.

@Kreij
If it's on SyFy it's on Hulu(+)

OH yeah and I forgot Crackle.com, NBC.com, ABC.com, Fox.com, Google Movies and Shows (free section) TruTV.com etc...etc...
The only thing you have to get used to is not being limited to watching it live...
I have a PC in every room so it wasn't that hard to make the switch.....

I think once more people start to realize how much better Internet is than Cable Sat etc...it'll be easier.....

I also believe this is what PROTECT IT is all about..It's one type of Industry trying to stop another in it's infancy.....which is Pathetic imo.

OH and just to clear this up ICEFILMS is legal in all of the USA as long as you STREAM and NEVER DOWNLOAD....STREAMING=LEGAL... DOWNLOADING=PIRACY
