Hi.

SO LONG the last time i logged in here, planning to do it more frequently now that I have a PC AGAIN :toast:

I builded a slim one with the following hardware:

- Core i3 2100 @ stock
- Mobo ECS with H67 chipset
- 1 RAM stick of 4GB @ 1333MHz
- 1 HDD Seagate of 1TB
- 1 DVD-RW
- 1 Card Reader
- 1 80mm thermaltake led fan (planning to put 2 x 60mm thermaltake fans later)
- all powered up by a generic 450W PSU with 20 amps on the 12v+ rail.

The PC it's running fine but I'm planning to add a radeon card so the HD6670 GDDR5 catched my eye, since the PSU it's not the best and the case is rather tiny I'm after a vga that do not use an external power connector and bring performance for casual gamming.

I think I choosed it right but I dunno if my psu will handle the entire system fine.

Hope you can help me with the recommended amperage of the HD6670 'cause I cannot find it, AMD only refers the recommended wattage (400W single, 500W crossfire) but it do not mention the amperage.

thanx for the advices.

It'll be fine, it have no external power connector, it takes it all from the PCIE slot.

thx for the response and I think the system will do fine too with my current PSU, but I need to be sure, any link to a webpage with the required info?. That's 'cause some ppl says that the vga needs 20amps some says that the required amps is 25amps.

The HD6670 is rated for 65w. I'd think your setup gets to 300w at most at full load so maybe the generic would be fine for the time being but I strongly suggest you to get a better PSU. MiPC has the Cooler Master Elite Power 400w for around 600 pesos which is a good buy. I'd really like to see low wattage units from Seasonic or Antec around here but I haven't seen any except for the one in my HTPC.

Not too keen with the generic, but you should do fine with 20A. However, don't try anything silly like stressing the pc with Furmark etc. Your next purchase MUST be a better PSU though, I don't know what you mean by "generic PSU", and chances are its not going to survive 10-15A for much longer than a few months/ a year.

Im from mexico too, my case is a SLIM one, so the PSU, my last PSU was a 950W Topower with 6 12V+ rails with 20A each.....ah what times...

I cannot find any SLIM PSU with more than 500W and generic trademarks.

So you got an Acteck Blazar isn't it? You could try getting a HIPRO SFX PSU from an HP Service Center, although I don't know if they sell them on their own or not. Also I don't know what kind of wattage you could get, I've seen 250w units installed in HP machines.

ebay has these with worldwide shipping:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/FSP-FSP300-...?pt=PCA_UPS&hash=item4cf1b188e4#ht_2646wt_909
http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-SPI-350...pt=PCA_UPS&hash=item4aaf0846b6#ht_2460wt_1187

...but I don't know if you'd be willing to spend 1000 pesos on an SFX PSU.

generic psu = trademark that is not popular or it's from an unknown producer, it tends to come with low quality components that deliver less power that it's mean to.

I cannot (at least at the moment) afford a new PSU 'cause is a SLIM one and i cannot find it, the more powerful is a 500w acteck blazar, I choose a 450w Kemex for the price.

300w? never in a million years, the i3 is rated at 65w, 1 HDD 12w, 1 RAM stick 10-20w? other components max 50w = 147w max add 65w for 6670 and its 213w

I do agree as others have said the term "generic" and PSU should never go together though I would imagine you would be ok, obviously if you can change it at some point then do, though if you have to make do then you have no choice :toast:

P.S 20a +12v = 240w, rarely are generic PSU's ratings ever close to what they claim.

hope, I've got a Kemex 450w, the anteck one was selling in mercadolibre = mercadorata, so i preffer buying it in a local store.

The PSU i'm reffering is a Slim type different from the HP models, that ones are in rectangular shape, the one i've is more like square shape like the standard ones but tinier.

The thing with the K-MEX PSUs is that the importer rates them way over their continuous rating. For example, there's the Pixxo Jaguar 500w which is a K-MEX build PSU but the model number is for a 300w unit (PK300RPFUN). There's also the K-MEX PX450 but such thing doesn't exist, the PX series tops at 300w (PX300).

Now, the PC won't explode in the moment you plug the HD6670 in but certainly I wouldn't trust such machine with important tasks. If it's for an HTPC or an alt system then go ahead but at least use a voltage regulator with it as many of those low end units don't even have OVP.

You'll be fine with just dropping thatt 6670 in. You shouldn't have an issue with power.

What case you got BTW?

I dont remember the manufacturer but the case it's well-builded and sturdy, it can hold 2 HDDs, 1 DVD, 1 card reader, a micro-atx mobo, and up to 4 expansion slots, the better is that it can hold full sized expansion cards (unlike most slim cases that can only hold low profile cards), It was belonged to me once then I selled it to my brother in law, later he got tired of it and he changed it, so i asked him if he can give it back, so he did.

The case was very dusty and damaged/scratched, so i reaconditioned it and vuala, it looks nice again. I'm going to post my case in the gallery once i finished it (1-2 weeks later), hope you can see it and rate it.

Yep youll be sweet as with the 6670. My 5870(underclocked and undervolted) with a q9950 @ 3.4ghz (4000 marks in 3dm11) with 2 hard drives underload(total system) is roughly 220w.
