I would go for it the 6990 is a dual GPU card with 4GB of memory if you can swap your 480 for one then jump on it the only problem i see is ATI drivers suck.

The 480 is an nvidia card and therefore automatically better! :rockout:

Ok, fanboy mode off, the 6990 will beat the pants off the 480 in performance, especially as it's a dual GPU card and the very top of the performance chart right now. Personally, I prefer the nvidia drivers though and use 3D Vision, so I would be losing these two things if I took this deal.

It's not clear how much money you have to pay for it though. The 6990 is very expensive, so surely it must cost you more than a "couple of dollars"?! Price makes all the difference here, as AMD's next gen cards are released on 22nd December.

Also, you play at 1080p, which while not extremely demanding by modern standards, can still benefit from a more powerful card, especially for DX11 games, of which there are a handful and any other games with demanding graphics.

Finally, make sure you have the PSU and case to accommodate the 6900, as it's very power hungry and hot - just seen your specs: yes those will be fine. :) Read a couple of reviews on it, starting with TPU, here. ;)

Nah, don't worry about your English. :toast:

$100 is very cheap - too cheap and it makes me wonder why this is so. Is this a private sale for a used card, perhaps? If used, you need to be sure that the card hasn't been damaged by overclocking, overheating etc. It's not always possible to tell at first glance, either, so you really need to trust the seller here.

if you trust the person that's selling it isn't trying to sell you a dodgy one, then go for it, after all, 100 dollards is a very good deal for a card like the 6990, you could probably even make money if you sold your GTX480!

That's still very cheap. Only go for it if you really trust him and know he'll give you a refund should it die or have other problems after a short while.

And +1 to what cheesy said! :toast:

It still sounds like quite a good deal, and with full warranty you shouldn't have any problems

the 6990 looks to be around twice as fast as the GTX 480 in many games

although, the one thing you should know is that in games where there aren't any good Crossfire profiles that speed boost drops to around 10%-20%

overall, still looks like a very good deal for just 100 dollards, so if you need or want the extra power then go for it

That doesn't sound bad, I say go for it. Again it all depends on how much you trust your seller. If you know he's a good guy then go for it. :toast:

You did well, AMD crossfire scaling is almost unmatched on series 69xx even compared to Nvidia's 5xx graphics. That card will serve you well for the time to come just be sure, as qubit mentioned, to have a fan blowing air directly to it. In a poor vented case the first gpu can easily reach 91 degrees

Nice fanboyism there :)

He explicitly said that the PC was for gaming and then CUDA is totally useless from a gaming standpoint, PhysX is barely adopted and in fact you can count on one hand the titles that take advantage from that.
AMD drivers have been really good lately, especially for 6xxx series.
Dead cards? Excuse me but this ball has been lost by Nvidia lately, namely GTX 570 and 590 very POOR vrms.

This coming from a guy who has several Nvidia and AMD/ATI GPUs.

He asked for an advice, not blind fanboyism.

As the owner of some Nvidia cards,I occasionally have problems with drivers, and my card is extremely loud.

Driver and noise problems are not restricted to any one side, infact I've had about equal problems with both over the years

That said you are right about the noise on the ATI, TPU's own reviews said it was loud --> http://tpucdn.com/reviews/ASUS/Radeon_HD_6990/images/fannoise_load.gif

What really matters is that he can get a 6990 for just 100 dollards, that is an amazing deal for the performance of a 6990, which is one of (Is?) the highest performing cards there are

I agree, I've had just as many problems from both sides.

Since having my ati 4650 then 5750 i have had minimal problems, Only 2 driver updates have caused me probs.
