Graphics Card Size / Cost

was just sitting here, looking at some gaming card reviews and came across a 480M board, which I think is a 480 GTX made for laptops.

Was wondering why one board can be made so small and the other needs to be so large (see attachment). Why not just make all the boards like the 'M' version ?

for 1 the Cards in laptops are Crippled to an extent Meaning Mobile Versions are Slower than Desktop Parts, 2 Standards in Laptops and Desktops are different, 3 Price, 4 easier to layout stuff on a desktop board than a laptop board

I just received a Palit 460 GTX 1GB and it's at least one inch shorter than the MSI 460 GTX 1GB Cyclone card. And when I saw the 480M I began to wonder why manufacturers do not make all vid cards as small as the 480M or there abouts. What came to mind was ... marketing. People like to feel they're getting something for their money and perhaps a small PCB will not sell as well for PC rigs?

mobile versions are never as powerful as the desktop versions. the model number is misleading you.

bigger cards can use bigger components, which means easier to cool and easier to design the PCB.
