Why would you buy a gtx 580 its old tech buy hd 7970 instead or wait a week or so 7950 to come out, should be at least as fast as 580 and allot cheaper.

I would suggest an Intel 2500K since this is a gaming PC.

This is the combo I have for my gaming PC. Excellent board at a reasonable price. Paired with the 2500k, and 16GB of Geil Evo 2 1866 sticks, it's just pure awesome without breaking the bank.

I agree, ASRock has done great things lately :toast:

The 2500K/2600K will beat the FX-8150 and be the better choice in your hardware setup. Also as others said, the 7950 that is about to release will have the same performance if not more than a 580 and be 50-100$ cheaper.

I agree with the switch to an Intel board. The 2500k is king of value, and it definitely kicks some serious performance out. BD is a nice thought experiment, but the performance does not justify pricing.

The 580 is a conundrum. While an excellent card, the 7970 is out right now. An extra hundred gets you significantly better performance for 99% of the games out there (not using GPU Physx), and a lower power draw. For what will likely be a very similar price, the 7950 is coming out soon. If $500 is price max, then keep it. If you are flexible then run with something at the top of the AMD stack.

Otherwise, a very capable gaming build.

Old tech? think your being a bit dramatic don't you? it's still NV highest current gen single card (for now), and is only 20% behind in performance for $100+ less? everything is relevant. The 7950 comment is a fairer point though until its price and performance are confirmed it's not guaranteed to be much better whilst being cheaper than a 580.

?

$600 is a 20% increase in price from a $500 base cost.

20% increased performance, coupled with a 20% higher price point. This is disregarding all of the other benefits, but using just this metric you've got complete sense.

This said, rumors of Nvidea's successor cards are starting to float down. Maybe running something cheap like a 6770, and upgrading in a couple of months might be worth it. All of this being speculation, go with whatever graphics card you feel is a good investment.

I didnt say that I was referring to his comment about it being old tech which it blatantly isnt, and yea the performance increase compared to the cost difference is linear, maybe he doesn't want to spend the extra $100 as what game can a 580 not run these days, really?

Wait a week or 2 for the 7950 to come out and then make your decision, your going to be better off. That way you can gauge what kind of performance you will want when you end up finally deciding what parts to use for your new build. But honestly, I am with most of the people here, I'd say get an i5-2500k + ASRock Extreme4 Gen3 + AMD HD 7950.

Hey guys thanks for all the suggestions. I think I'm going to wait until the 7950 comes out to make my decision on what I'm getting.

Nvidia all the way as far as your video card goes.

For processing power I would say if you want to shell out the few extra dollars then go with the Intel as previously stated. As far as keeping it a little cheaper and not sacrificing TOO much power, then AMD would be your route.

Just my opinion.
