I already have COD1, Half life, half life blue shift and some other older random games that I can't remember. I'm buying it 2$ at dollar store but it was good games back in these days.

Games wise Quake 2 and 3. Counterstrike 1.6 (source will probably play like total crap), COD, Medal of Honor Allied Assault. Hell you could even possibly run Diablo 2.

Diablo 2 will just about run on anything :laugh: even as far back as the late 90's machines will be able to run it lol

That mobo is very similar to the one i have here apart from the RAM support. GA-7DXE

As others have said the mobo will not support the CPU as it will only go up to the 2100+

My old rig that i still use today has the following;

AMD XP 2100+ OC to 2200+ speeds
GA-7DXE mobo
2x512 266MHZ RAM
80gig HDD
FX-5700 GPU

Games that i remember running on it are;

Diablo 2
C&C Generals Zero hr
C&C Kanes Wrath
Red Alert 3
Supreme command (till it crashed lol)

and many more just cant remember what ones.
All the games apart from Diablo 2 and Zero hour are set at low settings for it to run.

Hope this helps :)

Any questions on what other games will run on it give me a buzz i can do tests if ya like :)

This older mobo is only PCI and AGP and since the PCI have been developped with DDR2 and DDR3 I think it's over the AGP. http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814500228

How about this one?

Link below for PCIE version review here at TPU:

IMHO- I'd stick with what you have before spending any $$ on a GPU for this project or start a WTB thread for a better AGP 4X card than you currently have.

the newest agp out there is an hd 4650 i think... agp cards are at a premium though. look in the for sale threads for agp stuff. anything around a 6600gt or higher will be fine. although newer low end cards seem to have enough shaders they dont have the rops which can affect performance. most ive seen have 4 rops for say an 8400. so i cant really recommend a low end dx10 card. get a used at-the-time high end dx9 card and itll do a lot better. id say ati 1650/x850 or nvidia 6600gt will do. 256mb is plenty for older games but 512 wouldnt hurt. also, avoid ddr2 models. anything over 1gb is overkill and youll prob get charged a premium for the ram on agp. also, avoid 64bit memory vram

also, for some "good old games" check out gog.com pretty much drm free and cheap prices if you wanna preload some goodies. speaking of which. load up dosbox and a few dos games if ya want.

I would look towards a Agp card as it will always run faster then a regular pci card will.

Also be CAREFUL with the cpu as it may not work in your motherboard. The website for your board list support only up to 2100+. Now some have gotten kt133a boards to work with 2400+ but as alway YMMV. I have gotten mine to work but I also have a different board. You may not be so lucky.

Agreed seems like op is just ignoring the fact that the cpu he has isn't even supported by his mobo. Also they need to notice that board only has a agp 4x port. It won't run a 8x card. The op needs to make sure the card he gets is backward compatible to 4x also, as some agp 8x cards aren't backward and he will burn the system down with one that isn't. :toast:

Really? Diablo 2 came out in 2000 and had the following requirements:

Pentium 233 MHz with MMX
32 MB RAM
DirectX compatible graphics card
600 MB odd drive space

That machine was pretty bad ass by 2003 specs (other than the graphics card), it'll eat D2 for breakfast.

In a nut shell, it should play anything released in 2004 or earlier (yes, including Far Cry - I ran it on a Radeon 9000 but you'll have to drop the graphics quality).

@ThE_MaD_ShOt Many AGP 8x cards were capable of running in a 4x slot. No, they didn't run at 8x bandwidth, but did so at 4x and many did so fairly well. Unless the 8x card only has 1 notch, it should work. Many had 2 notches allowing it to run in either 4x or 8x slots.

@OP I bet the guy you gave it to is having a lot of fun. :toast:

Agreed ed the card has to have the 3.3v notch. Now the three 8x cards I have do not have the 3.3v notch and are for use in a 8x only board. They are all Ati products.
