Hmmm....i think mine is so hot cus the CPU fan is the wrong way. I remember before i had the heatpipes facing the back of the case...now they are facing the RAM.

I also remember before when i had the heatpipes facing the back, my temps were 52*C idle (v.core on auto, which was 1.45)...so if i turn it back around, it should go to mid 40's

Hey pinchy. Does your hsf have the fan facing sideways rather then blowing down on the cpu like a stock one? If so, yes. Blowing the heat toward the back of the case will help greaty if you have rear fans blowing outwards to blow that heat out of the case right away. My next hsf will have a fan perpendicular to the board and blowing towards the back of the case. I have 2 fans in the back. =) What cooler do you use? Nevermind. I see it. I don't know that rotating the heatpipes 180deg should make that much of a difference. Perhaps the thermal compound was disturbed more this time?

made a 2*C diff, but that was probably cus of the arctic cooler moving.

but, i turned it around because now i can put the ASUS NB cooler on (when the CPU HSF is the other way, it blocks it off) so now my mobo is 5*C or so cooler

My temps are like 5-8*C higher then revens, but im pretty sure thats because he is in an air conditioned room, whereas its pretty hot where i am, and his case has better cooling

Any improvement at no cost is a good thing! Even 5c is good because that's 5c cooler air cooling your cpu.

Core temp supports only Core 2 Duo processors.
:)

Core 2 Duo processors are all the same (architectural) only that better models have:
1. More cache
2. Higher FSB

Because there's alot more cache higher models with 4MB of cache run hotter at the same frequency than the 2MB version does.

i got the same reading
come to think of it, lots of programs arnt recognising our cpu...

the only thing that picks it up as an e6400 is Everest Ultimate Edition

eg if i go into properties for "My computer" it says its a Pentium D 000 3Ghz

CPU-z, Everest say its an E6400 core 2 duo

Its only when i properties "My Computer" that i get "Pentium D CPU 000"

That's very strange.
Maybe your motherboard doesn't "fully" support core 2 duo processors.

I've tryed core temp on 6 computers with different configurations and it was allways working.
So it may be a bios thing or not fully compatible board.
Do you have the latest bios ?

Ive noticed ASUS have released a later version of the BIOS, havent tried it yet. We also get that CPU uCode error thing at the start (which we bypassed, but its still there)

BUT, the BIOS ive flashed it to does support core 2 duo...i thought the My Computer thing was normal :(

Yes my friend got the same damn thing uCode error and it was anoying him but because he is not very technical guy i flashed him bios and then it worked without uCode error so maybe you should try to update bios.
He has P5B (non deluxe version)

My current setup:
MSI 975X Platinum PowerUP edition
E6600 @ 3.33GHz
1 GB Ram DDR 800 @ 900MHz
320GB Disk Seagate
SB Live! Platinum
Radeon X1600 PRO

System recognized e6600 with the first bios it came with this motherboard and i haven't got any problems with it.

Ill update bios now and post back here

P.S. To other core 2 duo users: What do you guys get when right clicking "My Computer" in properties for the CPU?

I perfectly agree with you.
But there's something that's causing this..

i thought it might be a side effect of the ucode error...but update of bios didnt fix it in our case

(many people had the error, some being able to fix it with a new bios, and others unable).

BIOS update: unsuccessful. My comp has crashed 3 times in a row as soon as windows loads up (with my regular BIOS options)...Just got it working now when reverted to complete setup defaults...

Stupid CPU :p

Ok fixed BIOS crashing error...something to do with changing the sound :p

Anyways, i noticed even in BIOS it says the CPU is a Pentium D 000 blah blah...thats probably why the uCode error is there...

Yes seems like your motherboard doesn't recognize your CPU as it should.
But anyway if it works good then you're ok.

It works fine, but i got a strange feeling its messing with my temps and overclock...
