GCT Semiconductor, a leading designer and supplier of advanced 4G mobile semiconductor solutions, today announced that it is collaborating with NVIDIA to deliver a 4G LTE reference platform in a cost-effective solution ideal for smartphones and tablets.

The platform is comprised of the NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor, the world's first quad-core mobile processor, and GCT's proven LTE single-chip, GDM7240. It represents a turnkey reference design for OEMs, which includes LTE and 2G/3G connectivity with high performing multimedia browsing and fast graphics speeds.

"GCT is one of the leading providers of LTE modem technology," said Michael Rayfield, General Manager of the Mobile business at NVIDIA. "Bringing together their technology with Tegra 3 helps our partners create quad-core LTE mobile devices that we believe will impress customers with outstanding performance and longer battery life."

"Wireless operators are looking for the best mobile platform solution in terms of speed, connectivity and application processor," said Dr. Kyeongho "KH" Lee, President and Chief Executive Officer of GCT Semiconductor, Inc. "By combining NVIDIA's excellent graphics and display performance with GCT's advanced LTE single-chip solution, we believe we can provide a very attractive turnkey design for LTE smartphones and tablets. We're pleased to be working with NVIDIA to advance the 4G ecosystem."

The platform will enable OEM and ODMs to improve their time to market with mobile devices that fully take advantage of Tegra 3's powerful HD video and console-quality gaming capabilities on 4G LTE networks.

The world's first quad-core mobile processor for tablets and super phones, Tegra 3 delivers up to 5x the performance of the first dual-core processor, Tegra 2. Tegra 3 features a new patent-pending Variable SMP (vSMP) architecture with a fifth lower-power "companion" core, a PC-class CPU and 3X faster GPU with stereo 3D support to deliver a compelling combination of high performance and extended battery life.

GCT's GDM7240 is currently commercially deployed with leading LTE operators in the U.S. and various other markets worldwide. GDM7240 is an advanced LTE single-chip solution that is well suited to meet the rapidly growing demand for higher data speed, higher mobility, enhanced applications and global roaming.
