ASUS Makes Z9PE-D8 WS 2P-LGA2011 Motherboard Official

ASUS made its workstation-grade Z9PE-D8 WS motherboard official. The board is built for 2P Xeon E5-2600 series processors in the LGA2011 package, is based on the Intel C606 "Patsburg" chipset, and is built in the 30.5 x 33 cm EEB form-factor. Each of the two sockets is wired to four DDR3 DIMM slots, supporting quad-channel memory, each. Up to 256 GB of registered DDR3 memory is supported.

Expansion slots include four PCI-Express 3.0 x16 (blue), two PCI-Express 3.0 x16 (electrical x8, top two black), and one PCI-Express 2.0 x16 (electrical x4, bottommost black). 4-way SLI and CrossFireX are supported. Storage connectivity includes six SATA 6 Gb/s (two from the PCH, four from two Marvell 9230 chips), and eight SATA 3 Gb/s (all from the PCH). An ASPEED ASMB6 provides basic display and iKVM functions. Realtek ALC898 provides 8-channel HD audio. There are two gigabit Ethernet interfaces, driven by Intel 82574L chips. The Z9PE-D8 WS from ASUS is priced around US $630.

really nice looking board! But EEB Form Factor? Which is the same size as EATX so why not make it an EATX mobo!! Now I need a different case and I love my antec P280 I just bought.

It should fit... if you rip out the entire drive cage. Luckily it's a model with a door.

Then you'd just need to place 4-5 new screw mounts to support the edge of the board.

Does it have all the normal overclocking features?
Anyone know how well the Xeon E5-2600 overclocks?

It should, but not one has said for sure... rumors only. :ohwell:

The E5 procs are locked down and have bad BLCK OC potential so don't go into it think you will get to 4.2Ghz+ from what is being said by EVGA and the SR-X board.

Just ordered my Z9PE-D8 WS from Newegg!! When I compared it to the SR-X it was a no brainer. 6 SATA 6Gb/s ports on the board as compared to 4 ( 2 of those being external eSATA) and ASUS SSD caching. Combine this with my RevoDrive 3 X2 and my system will fly.

I think I'll be able to shave at least 2 seconds off my MS Solitare record!! :rockout:

its capable of OCing but the cpus arent. cpus will cost you $5000 easily. have fun at stock speed

waste of money despite being such an awesome board. not asus' fault though.

With workstation or server motherboards you want stability ANYDAY over being able to over-clock the CPUs on it. These really are not systems for enthusiasts, game players or over-clockers.

So YES I will enjoy it at stock speeds! Thanks

and the CPUs I am looking at go up to 3.8Ghz when needed.

I wonder what the performance impact of CrossfireX/SLI over QPI will be, considering that you can connect GPUs across CPUs.
