Upgrade Recommendation

Hi, im working on fixing up a friends aging gaming rig.
When he bought it, the 9500GS currently residing in the rig was as good as store models had from HP. What card would be satifactory for playing Mass Effect 3 and or BF3 while spending the least cash?

depends on Resolution, and ya 4850 or higher are recommended. So I would say a 6670 or even better than that.

roughly 1920*1080

He is currently using my rig to play and that gets annoying when I want to game and he is using my rig.

5670 / 6670 are minimum for any HD gameplay... We are talking around 50-60€... Next step is 6750/6770/7750...etc...

Quick answer: Sell him your 5850 and maybe pickup a 6950 2GB.

Long answer: What are the current specs of his power supply? If it is rather on the weak side maybe a 6790/gtx550 ti to fit the bill?

I can not do that at this time. he was unemployed for 3 months with no where to go so I let him stay with me. He recently got employed at Lowes part time. First check he gets he is fixing his car ^_^ and paying his bills. ^_^

I am all for making small adjustments to his computer as I know he will repay me.

If you can catch a 5770 out there cheap, they do a great job with BF3 on medium!

eh, not too concerned with BF3 he hates on Multiplayer for anything. He does not like multiplayer only single player. His main concern is Mass Effect 3. I find it sad that he hates on Multiplayer and raves on Singleplayer yet uses trainers on new games. Sad little man. Right now his rig is running Ubuntu Ulitmate Edition 3.2.

what r the recommended specs for ME3?
Again the limiting factor is what chipset (PCI/AGP/PCI-e) the Geforce 9500GS 512mb uses.
