P8Z68=V-PRO Gen3 - BUG CODE USB DRIVER - Mobo Issue?

Hey folks,

I recently installed a new Mobo and Processor for my house-mate and since installation his USB devices have been playing hell.

Mouse turns off randomly and sticks, keyboard turns off randomly, BSOD (BUG_CODE_USB_DRIVER)

We thought it was a HDD issue but he has 3, all 3 of them exhibit the same issue when plugged in seperatley. (tested with windows, I work in IT so I have LOADS of liscences)

We also checked all the USB drivers and reinstalled windows.

We then discovered that the mouse started sticking every now and again in the UFEI BIOS - which indicated a mobo issue, however when I flashed the BIOS to the latest release it seemed to fix the BIOS sticking of the mouse, but didnt fix it within windows OR windows installatoin.

I think this is a mobo issue, infact I'm 99% sure, HOWEVER, I love ASUS so much that I refuse to beleive it, and I dont like the idea of making him RMA it and get a new one.

Any second opinions?

did you try different mice/keyboards/take out all the un-needed usb devices?

The affected devices work fine on his old motherboard (tested before and after)

We also tested then without any other USB devices plugged in.

Have you tried updating the BIOS.... The first BIOS for this board sucked. Oopps never mind! Saw that you did....

I would still test with a different USB mouse and Keyboard if you have one. I had the same thing happen for me when trying to use a Cooler master inferno Mouse until I switched to a different mouse the problem wouldn't go away.

sounds like either the mobo is shorting (inside the case, or something in one of the ports) or the board is damaged.

also possible a USB device thats plugged in is faulty (such as his mouse) but i'd be surprised if you didnt think of that before reinstalling the OS so many times.

Did you test the devices on another PC?

I did state that the USB devices were tested on another motherboard and were fine.

then its either a short, or a damaged board. remember that testing the devices is one thing, but make sure cables are tested as well. i know someone who spent days diagnosing a problem, and he'd just rolled over a USB extension lead with his chair, and it was shorting even with no devices plugged in.

I just noticed 2 bent pins on the CPU socket whilst looking for visible damage on the motherboard.

They are making contact with the pads on the CPU but I'm considering that this may be the problem.

its not impossible, but if they're making contact they should be fine.
