I at one time did have a gigabyte selected that was $200 (or so) but it has regular old BIOS (no GUI) - I "threw" that part out and got what you see in the first post. I think I specifically got it because of the UEFI (which I do want) and because of the reviews seemed positive and it was a lot cheaper than $200.

I see, btw both mobos are below 150$ and have UEFI, imo that Biostar looks very promising for what it offers.

I know its biostar but apparently they got better..

That motherboard (biostar) is compatible with the RAM I had and with 16 GB that raises how end cost nearly 35 dollars. O well. I presume 'faster' RAM (a high # 1866 vs 1600 vs 1300) is better . . . .

For a Intel System Bandwidth is key, but also remember timings still count too.

I have seen a G.Skill kit that is, I believe, DDR3-1866 (might be 2133) that has a CAS Latency of only 7! I believe that it is a 2x4GB kit for around $70 or so on the egg. Would this be a worthwhile purchase, as my understanding is that by having such a low latency out of the box especially considering the fast speed, it would theoretically be an excellent choice for overclocking? I would love to hit 2400 or more at CAS 10...

8 GB for $75 seems too much compared to what 16GB can cost.

You can get the OEM Windows 7 64 no need for the 32 bit that comes with the retail version. Scratch the 90 SSD or both SSD and bump up to the 7950 at least or 680. Also get the HD monitor when you order your parts. But looks good

I already have Windows Home Premium 32 & 64 Bit discs. For now I think I'm temporarily getting rid of my 240 GB SSD and instead using that to get the 680. SSD will come down in price eventually. I can first see if the games have gigantic loading times on the 2 TB HDD. Radeon H9 7970 or 680? No physics (AMD) or PhysX (Nvidia)

As of right now this is what my parts I'll buy (eventually):

Frequent video encoding, 3D modeling, etc

Means you should go i7, if not wait for the new line to come out. The hyper threading is only really beneficial in the video encoding/modeling etc.. which is what you'll apparently be doing.

And as is right now, theirs 0 reason to go ATI over NVIDIA. So the 680 is a much better choice then ur original post.

I don't have any need to do video (or even) picture editing or modeling - no CAD that bit is from a different forum from one of the dozen other threads I've posted on the net about what I should get. I probably will be running folding@home plenty though.
