Help with a pair of new SSD's

Got my new drives in today and connected them, showing up in the BIOS but not in windows. Already checked in computer management and all that still not showing.

My setup right now is a RAID 3+0 array, I just want the drives to show up to update the firmware on them before I install windows to them.

Any help?

If your RAID controller is already enabled, you may need to "provision" those devices as JBOD before they appear in Windows. Dunno, I'm kinda making it up as I've yet to run into that exact problem.

Okay i set the two drives up as jbods and now my system hangs at the raid screen...

Make sure your BIOS boot order didn't whack out on you now that you've set them JBOD

Wouldn't let me in the bios as it has to detect the drives via the raid controller first

What the hell is R3+0? I thought with R3 (which is a peculiar choice) you need 3 drives anyway...

It's 3 drives in a raid 0 maybe I typed it wrong. Going the long route, installing windows on a single drive then updating the firmware on the ssd then installing onto them

Should have said a 3 drive raid 0, there's a raid 3, as well as a ton of other peculiar ones, the wikipedia page for raids is quite an interesting read!

Ugh what a PITA I Finally got it to not hang after converting the drives to a raid, and the windows install can't see them. So In a last ditch effort I plugged the drives into the hardware raid on the board and I'm installing windows at this point. I'll run a benchmark to see if it's hurting me or worth it.

What drives, board, and controller are you using?
I know with updating my vertex 3's I used the live CD from OCZ and put the controller into AHCI, updated without issues, then switched back to raid after a reboot and worked like a charm.

Its an MSI 790FX GD70, I have already updated the drives to the latest 1.4RC firmware. They just didnt want to co-operate with a RAID, so I used the hardware raid to make them.

I dont think you have enough ports on the same controller to do a 3 drive raid may have been the problem...(on your mobo)

No it has the ports for everything, just the ssd's weren't showing up in windows. The HW raid controller was poop trying to see I can't get it to install using the normal method

At this point I said to heck with the raid so Im just going to install to one ssd. Goto install windows and it tells me it was unable to create a new system partition. Using the command promt within the reinstalled I'm trying reformat the drive and give it another go.

Edit: so what's a decent benchmark to check my speed? Iometer is to complicated hehe

Alright small update, couldnt resist went to micro center today and picked up the i5 2500k and Asrock z77 extreme 4 for 249.99 deal. Needless to say a flawless install on these SSD's as a raid. Let me tell you this thing is FAST, boots in easily <8 seconds. Im going to let the ITGC run for a few hours before I fire up a benchmark.

Hasnt been to bad so far, nice features, pretty easy UEFI BIOS, though I think my Front Panel Header is Dead (?) not sure yet but I have only been able to get the system to start using the onboard button.

Have you tried jumpering the header pins directly?
