As the title states, I am currently looking for a reasonably priced Q6600/Q6700 (any stepping, but G0 preferred) to hold me over until I can do a complete upgrade of my system. Though it is probably a given, the processor must be in good working condition.

If no one has either of those up for sale, I will also be interested in purchasing a E6600/E6700.

Don't be wary of my Heatware, as I've been registered on these forums for quite some time and have done transactions that were not posted to Heatware. All/any payments will be sent promptly by PayPal.

I am extremely confident that your motherboard would support 45nm processors (e.g. Q8200, Q9550) with a bios update. Is there any reason that you want to avoid those? I don't know how far you'll be able to push a Q6 on that cooler.

An E8400 could make a solid upgrade too, if you're into overclocking.

965P boards are not "electrically compatible" with 45nm CPUs. You need between a G31-X48 according to Intel.

I just bought a Q6600 G0 a couple days ago, but I don't really want to flip it unless the offer is too good to resist lol.

Unfortunately I have the rev 1.3 version of the board and according to Gigabyte's compatibility list, I am limited to processors up to the QX6800 only. I doubt people would be willing to let the extreme versions of the C2D/C2Q on the cheap, so I've artificially limited my search to the Q6600/Q6700/E6600/E6700 processors. Thanks for the concern though :)

Edit: Looks like my Google-fu and typing skills are a bit too slow. Jstn7477 essentially confirmed what I found though.

I know people running 45nm quads on 965 boards.

See the "CPU support list" link at the top right. Lower-end 45nm chips get official support, higher end (up to QX9650) get unofficial support. Is that page for a different revision?

I believe that the page you posted is actually for the rev 3.3 version whereas I have the rev 1.3 board. Perhaps they added support for the 45nm in the later revisions but for my 1.3 board, they don't "officially" support it.

And in any case, even if I were able use 45nm processors, I'm not sure if I would want to as it would likely take more effort than just dropping in a CPU with native support. And considering that I will likely get a whole new system in a few months' time, it doesn't really make sense to spend a bunch of cash and effort (at least to me). And as for my current CPU heatsink, if the temps seem to be unacceptable I have considered (and am willing to) to drop some coin on a newer model that fits a wider range of socket types.

I realize there are some circumstances where you can run them (I have a PDC E6600 on a VIA PT880 board) but he says he has v1.3 of the board which does not list those processor at all, unofficial support or not. Yes, the pages are much different.

Fair enough! Good luck :)
