I've just read this http://news.softpedia.com/news/HDD-...e-s-Net-Income-Increases-by-1200-274596.shtml

... and then realized things are going the wrong way.

Blu-ray media is still kinda expensive in my view. Tape media is even more in-affordable ...

After doing some more reading on http://news.softpedia.com/news/Fake...D-Spends-Another-1-9-Billion-USD-271159.shtml

I think it's clear that prices will likely stay like this http://darrellx.com/2012/05/03/remember-remember-what-seagate-did-last-november/ forever as 5 or 6 years is forever to me :(

That's exactly what I've been doing for the last seven months, but I need more capacity and don' really have time to write hundreds of DVDs ...

Why do you think I was asking about Blu-ray or tape media ? :) Because I'd hate buying HDDs right now !

WD has already spent over 7 billion dollars in cash in the last 12 months and prospects are even greater.

Going to 7 billion of cash spending from net income of around 100 million last year is likely a historical evolution.

I don't think they would even care about our boycott, but I'm dead set on finding an alternative for high capacity storage.

this sucks the avg. price of the one I want is like 180 bucks :-(

it would be cheaper to get a decent size SSD and just reclaim OS partition space from the HDD that way.... but that would make me gain speed and 80GB. That could work for now....

I guess I'll have to keep my eye on sales for HDDs. I bought two 2TB drives just a couple of months before the floods and I still have one unused but I'm getting my BD-ROM later this month and I'll start to rip my BDs.

"Want to buy another hard drive.

But prices have increased that much"

@TRWOV: those films are on pressed (i.e. not burned) BD already anyway, so even if you did not have a "spare" HDD you would still be good for now.

Get an SSD and stop hoarding so much porn which you only masturbate to once. I can survive easily on 240GB, no doubt you can too :)

The 1TB WD Black was $120 2 years ago, and it is $120 today. Prices are returning to normal, we all just got spoiled by the ~1 year times where HDD prices were rock bottom.

I think people are looking at the wrong capacities and wrong brand. A Seagate 3 TB is the sweet spot and those have been at pre-flood prices for months. 4 TBs are even lower.

2010 prices were about 100%
2011 prices were about 300%
2012 prices are about 200%

They're coming down from their peak slowly but surely.

Well they were set to the original price in the middle of this year quote the ceo of western digital but looks like they decided to make much more money off consumers since that wd "flood" increased their profit margin much more despite the "flood"damages" and this "flood" was long over and production speed is back to normal and this "flood" is still causing inflation prices. So this flood is really bs but what i have seen retailers doing are instead of selling high hdd with higher cache they are selling the ones with 7200rpm with 16mb cache thinking consumers dont know what they are doing there. I have spoken to a few people from western digital and their distributor to confirm when prices drop were going back to normal they promised that their sales devision said it was middle of this year and prices will drop every 2 shipments and suddenly now they are saying price inflation of hdd will continue till 2014? lOl then the other question why is seagate inflating their prices also ? are they donating funds to western digital? lol
