Normally I would say 670 without hesitation, but now I think it would be wise to consider the 7950.

Enough of price difference with the former to make it a good option.

Honestly both cards are neck and neck. It comes down to doing research and finding each cards weaknesses. Find the weaknesses and then choose the card that has the most strengths for you. I have owned both sets of cards (680's and 7970's) plus played with multiple versions at work. All of the models you listed above are really neck and neck in terms of performance.

The strength of the 7970 comes in at higher resolutions like 1440p and up. The 680/670 kills at 1080p and down.

Even @ 1080 the 79xx are very competitive when OCed, everyone seems to be looking past the fact that they clock very well and the performance scales right along with it...

Plus the price difference :)

I would say that the EVGA GTX670 FTW 2GB is the best bang for the buck, and I stand by that enough that I just ordered one. I was considering the 4GB version, but they are based on the 670 PCB vs the 680 PCB for the 670 FTW. I don't see the need for a card that won't overclock as well and doesn't perform as well unless you have 3 monitors. At that point, you are likely needing multiple GPU'S and then the difference would still be minimal at best.

Plus, the fact that no WaterBlocks are available for 4GB models sealed the deal. I would rather have a 2GB card @ 1.3 Ghz running at no more than 45-50C than a 4GB card at 1.1Ghz at 80C.

Let us know what you get. I debated for awhile myself but ended up getting a used 7970 for relatively cheap.

I've been phoning the suppliers in my area...

There is about a 30% price difference between the 670 & 680GTX respectively.
A HD7970 can be had for about the same price as a 680GTX. I'm still pondering whether the GTX680 justifies it's 30% price difference over a 670GTX.

Now comes the hard part...

I have upgraded my 7950 to pair of Asus GTX 670 DC2T and could not be happier.
Although 7950 was suffice for all the gaming needs at 1080p, upgrade was impulsive could not fight the urge to play with new hardware :D. Performance wise apart from higher 3dmark wasn't that noticeable.

If you go the AMD route consider XFX 7950 DD, this is a very cool card and overclocks well.

If that is really the case in your area, I mean, 30% price between 670 -> 680/7970... man 670 all the way.

yea 30% price difference makes this a no brainer, if prices were closer to what they are on say Newegg then the 670 or 7970 make more sense but yea 30% is too huge to ignore, take the 670 and be done with it.

I vote for a Asus 670 DCII or other custom 670, for me at list the performance / price seems better (my not TOP models is stable at 1050 & 1802@mem the TOP model goes to 1058). Coming from a HD5870 i feel very pleased (and yes the drivers, all the waiting & the price of the 7970 got me to change sides)

Woah 30%? Well, that makes the 670 the best bang for buck.

Edit: Is the 7950 near the price of the 670? because then the choice gets hard again :p

Everyone makes perfect sense but!

I signed up for this one reply. I am currently doing a research on user mentality and product acknowledgement.

1st of all everyone is right! that 30% difference is a no brainer or you might want to consider looking at more stores before purchasing.

2nd AMD = Raw Processing Power NVidia = Pure Gaming Pleasure

2nd
(i) Do you see yourself using Adobe suites? PS, PP, AE, ILS, etc etc? yes? AMD!
(ii) Do you see yourself gaming and purely for entertainment? yes? NVIDIA!
(iii) Do you like effects and such? yes? PHYSX
(iv) Are you comfortable with MSI AB? yes? AMD! why? Look at the numbers (min/max)
(v) There's always SLI / Crossfire / Phys X dedicated cards.
(vi) Bang for buck? full stop.... AMD
(vii) AMD is getting a good amount of game sponsorships... NVidia still dominates that sector.

3rd seriously listen to everyone about the 30% price or maybe search somewhere else. the performance gains aren't Hz per $. Just decide which one of the scales are you on? computing power and a more brilliant colour pallet or pure gaming and entertainment.

4th

Lastly but most importantly.

3D?

HD3D, Stereoscopic 3D, Forced 3D........ which do you want? (read up on it)

HD3D
AMD = HAS 3D! EXCEPT! some games requires CVar tweaks to get HD3D working ie: Crysis 2

Stereoscopic 3D
NVidia = massively dominates the sector with this option *thus gamer/entertainment enthusiasts* (3D Vision notable read but it's on 2.0 now)

Forced 3D?
Any card + 3D capable monitor + force via monitor settings tweak.

That's pretty much why i signed up to post and i hope that made it easier for you (the entire forum already narrowed down for you btw. 30%? no brainer! now choose your path and purpose)
