HD 7850 overclocking wall

I can't my 7850 to go over 1120/1450 and run stable
I'm trying to get the core up to 1200+, but I can't even run Unigine Heaven without crashing if I up it to 1130. I haven't touched voltages yet

You have to increase the voltage. That's why you are hitting a wall, like with any semiconductor.

Wow man i have 1.2V with my card. Imagine to have that one.
1.1V is a joke, really. The 78xx and 79xx series are well known for high voltages.
So it is your voltage who is not letting your card to run.
When it crashes what type of crash do you get?
If you get lines with pourple, than it is the voltage.
If you computer computer shuts down, it is the psu fault.

It doesn't give me lines or artifact or anything, heaven just crashes with some error about Direct X or something similar
Windows is still running, which is odd
And yeah I know I need to up the voltage but I don't know what range I should stay within, never adjust GPU voltage before. I'll try 1.2V now

well it sounds like a compatibility issue that Heaven has with Direct X, If Games dont crash but heaven does then that program is at fault

7xxx cards can easily crash your game if they are unstable. I thought my problem with Nexuiz crashing to the desktop was a program problem, but I increased the voltage to 1.05v on my 7950 (at 1GHz) and the problem went away.

Quite simply, your GPU is unstable if something crashes at a higher clock speed and doesn't at a lower clock speed. Add a little bit of voltage and try again. I bet you can get around 1200+ out of that card, and I doubt it's going to suddenly break or burst into flames if you know what you're doing.

It will continue to crash unless you either re-install the driver or Unigine. Dont know why but my HD7950 will do it continuously after the first crash happens.

That and you still need to raise the voltage. Nobody gets to 1200MHz on stock volts.

He can get 1250 out of it, it's my old card.

It could probably do the full 50% over-clock if he found a program that could put the voltage over 1.215

@El Mayo what are temperatures like dude? I had to use crappy thermal paste when I reinstalled the heatsink.

you bastard! I haven't gone over 64
or was it 67... either way

I'm using Asus GPU Tweak which goes up to 1.225V
I've dialled it back to 1000mhz
What volts and clocks exactly where you using? I'll copy them now

I was using 1100 at 1.1v and ram was at 1375 but a few games don't like it that high 1300* is fine really.

This may seem lower but at higher clocks say 1450 I would actually loose a few frames per second.

oh that's nothing I'm on 1120 atm with the same voltage
I'll reduce my memory speed tho

Increasing memory speed won't do you any good!Reinstall drivers using erocker's guide and then go for further oc!
I can't believe u didn't reinstall after swaping...WTF

Memory speed does make a difference, highest frame rates were in-between 1300 and 1375 for me : ]

About 5 % performance improvement, which can be the difference between stutter and no stutter in some games so it's worth doing since it's free.

I keep getting a blank screen with lines when the card is in 2D mode
