I may be being picky here, but whilst playing bf3, on maps like karkand, as soon as the fps drops to the 50's I get alot of stuttering, like im playing at 25fps, I know this is not normal,

anyone else have this???

specs below

Yeah, with 4GB of ram or less, all the time. This game needs a system with 6-8 GB.

Other than that, no...I don't drop below 100 FPS very often. :p

with your specs, not suprising!

I have 16gb of ram, cpu @ 4.3ghz, and it runs smooth at 60fps, but at 52 for example, there is a huge difference, feels like its dropped about 30

could be nvidia's adaptive v-sync, perhaps? I do not have new Nvidia cards, so I'm not sure how all of that works, but it sure does sound like v-sync!

Adaptive vsync is on, otherwise its terrible. its not game breaking, Im just wondering if im expecting too much, but on my old pc, I played crysis 2 @ 35-40fps and it looked worlds better than this.

It could possibly be that the PSU isnt enough.

a 550watt is recommended, you have 650w which should be plenty to run your rig. but some PSUs dont like being pushed almost to their limits. recommend getting a good 750w, maybe an 850w if you plan to go SLi in the future.

not stressing your PSU also makes it last that little bit longer

Well, i tell ya, I got 2x 7950 3 GB cards, and can clock them up to 1200/1500, no problem, plays BF3 fine.

But, @ about 85 FPS.

Pop those cards out, drop in my 6950's, and I'm playing at 140 FPS.:banghead:

Now, benchmarks tell me that 2x 7950 = 3x 6950, but BF3 tells a far different story.

Why, how, wtf, I have no idea, but thank god I got the 7950's for reviews, and not gaming!

If you have adapticew v-sync on, that's the cause. We've got at least one other regular in our TS with a GTX680, and he doesn't report many issues. When I speak tp him I'll ask him to chime in here with what settings he uses.

what resolution are you playing at? I have had problems with adaptive vsync since I got my cards. I would turn it off... Also it could be due to some post processing effects. I know the new maps hit me hard because of the additional desctruction features, etc.

That's not the resolution. Your resolution is how many pixels displayed by your monitor. For example 1920x1080 would be 1920 across 1080 high.

I leave everything on "Auto" in the drivers man. As for the game itself you can dump the pref. file and let it read you config from a default launch. This should give you optimum settings.

It's a good 650w unit, it's not the PSU unless there's something wrong with it.

Turn off Adapter V-sync and then turn on V-sync on or off in game to see if tht helps.

Also try the new beta drivers for your card. They seem to have fixed a lot of the stutter issues with Adaptive V-sync

Lower your anti aliasing settings. Also, you never mentioned what resolution you are playing at.

It is, in a weird way. If you go up on the hills at Kargh Island you'l see cardboard trees. They are 2D, you can circle around. Never seen anything like this.

But multiplayer is a constant stress test for your machine, CPU, mem, GPU and whatnot.
Back on topic, you should not have any problems with that setup at that resolution. What is the GPU usage when stuttering occurs, I think it drops but can't imagine that a 3570K even stock can't feed the 680 in BF3 MP.

I've had the problem when running 4GB RAM. Now it runs like butter ULTRA preset, vsync on. Truth is I'm on 1680/1050 but apart from some drops in frames in some specific maps/actions (not stutter) it runs at around average 50FPS including Karkand pack.

Knock it up to 1920 x 1080 and you wont be running at Ultra.

Why don't you ever play with us in TS Crap Daddy? Me, Dave, and Mailman play quite a bit.

Knock it up to 1920 x 1080 and you wont be running at Ultra.

I was running with my 470 at 1920 x 1200 with all Ultra and 4x MSAA and HBAO. and got 35-40FPS. Barely playable, but i could do it.

35FPS is not playable and I bet on heavy battles it would dip lower.

Your system is better than mine but in game i would imagine that FPS is similar, i'm clocked at 4.6.

It feels the same to me when in dips to the 50's which is very rare was the same when i had a 470 as well, its just feels unsmooth, so i have capped it at 65 and live with the screen tear as i cant stand v sync.

open up the performance monitor overlay in game and see which line is stuttering when its in the 50's. Should help you narrow it down to CPU or GPU.

enter render.perfoverlay 1 in game console

to me it was because I trained myself to game at low FPS a while a back when i first started doing computer stuff.

Knock it up to 1920 x 1080 and you wont be running at Ultra.

Native resolution for me is 1680/1050 at 22", still happy (16/10 is great) and the 570SC is flying on it. Upgrade is out of the question (my kid wants a bass guitar, the cost of heating during the winter will be higher than usual while business is not going as usual)

Why don't you ever play with us in TS Crap Daddy? Me, Dave, and Mailman play quite a bit.

Many thanks for the invite but unfortunately I live in Eastern Europe Time Zone (I'm in the next day about 8-10 hours earlier that you guys) and there's also the Lag Zone when playing on US servers. I'm sure it would be great fun...
