Hi guys,
I just looked up the specs for the UX32VD, and it states that the installed HDD or SSD can only be up to 256GB. Can I install a Samsung 830 512GB SSD on it? I also have a Windows 7 Ultimate disc rather than the lower versions. Is it possible that the UX32VD will be able to handle Ultimate version running on 64bit? I will also be changing the RAM to an 8GB (totaling 10GB usuable). The UX32VD also has a 20GB SSD for cache. How will this work if I already am going to install a SSD?
Also, I will be using an external DVD/Blu-Ray drive connected to the USB 3.0 to install Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. Is this safe? Will it work?

Thanks

I have never heard of a system putting a limit on the size of a hard drive, well nothing over 2-3TB. The version on newegg has a 500gb HDD in it so I call shenanigans!

Windows 7 Ultimate would work fine on it as the Laptop has 64bit drivers. As far as the 20gb SSD goes, I think that may be a separate piece of hardware altogether that could be removed if you wanted.

Ultimately, you should be able to install a 500gb ssd with Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit on this laptop. Why not just clone the existing OS install onto the 500gb SSD and save yourself $130 ish bucks? Easeus back up has great (free) cloning software.

Sounds like everything will work fine. Considering I have 7 ultimate x64 installed on a pair of 1TB samsung F3's in raid I don't think you have anything to worry about. The 20GB SSD (cache disk) will be used as a page file disk.

So I can either use the onboard 20GB ssd or remove it right? Does that mean if I use the 20GB ssd will it be caching even faster like raiding? That would be even faster right?
Also, installing Windows 7 Ultimate using an external DVD/Blu-ray drive is fine right? I just go into the bios and change the boot priority to USB right?
Should I install only drivers that are essential like USB, chipset, lan, and not install the ASUS bloatwares like the dimming screen animations? I ask this because this is an Ultrabook and is different from a regular desktop where you can skimp out on downloading only the drivers and not the bloatware with the animations.

No if you install a SSD you might as well take the msata out. It will still cashe stuff but at the same speed as the harddrive.

On second though it just might be affixed to the HD installed or soldered to the board

I can't seem to find if the 32GB soldered down ssd would be a seperate drive or will it be still caching? Do you know? I don't wish to install the OS on that onboard SSD. I just want to install my 512GB Samsung 830 SSD and install Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit on it. And I just want to use the 32GB for storing games or whatever. During the fresh install, will the internal SSD show up as an option to install OS on as well as the 830 SSD if I install it on the UX32VD?

It might...? Install and find out it will be pretty obvious which drive is which.

I don't have it yet. Just wanted to make sure that the soldered down iSSD won't still be caching. If it still caches, will it slow down the computer? I will be installing a 512GB Samsung 830 SSD and it's way faster than the iSSD.
