MSI is working on a Wind U270 11.6-inch netbook variant that's driven by AMD E2-1800 "Brazos 2.0" dual-core APU. The E2-1800 packs two x86-64 cores clocked at 1.70 GHz, 1 MB of total cache, Radeon HD 7340 integrated graphics, and TDP of 17W. The APU is backed by AMD A68M FCH, which provides up to four SATA 6 Gb/s ports. 2 GB of single-channel DDR3 memory is included, so is a 320 GB 5400 RPM HDD. Connectivity options include 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, and gigabit Ethernet. Other features include a 1.3 MP webcam, and a 6-in-1 flash card reader supporting SD/SDHC/SDXC/XD/MMC/Memory Stick. Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit comes pre-installed. The 11.6-inch screen packs a resolution of 1366x768 pixels. Slated for May 18, the Wind U270-412 is priced at 46,800 JPY (US $587), in Japan.

Add a Mushkin Chronos SSD and get around 500MB/s reads and writes over those SATA III ports.

Does Brazos 2.0 actually makes it worth buying a netbook?

Still hate how those Atoms (260, 280) sucked big time...

yes, these are faster, maybe not in synthetic benchmarks compared to, lets say, a Pentium B800 but the overall system response is fast in brazos 1.0 and now even better 2.0.

You know, the video is great in brazos. I personally going for llano instead of brazos (and get a bigger laptop, not netbook) but that's because I want to make encoding and semi-serious gaming on it.

I see
The reason I ask is because, even with the Atom 2600/2800, I just didnt see enough performance. I have a 260 and it sucks big time. I really hate it.

But I guess for very basic, single-tasking stuff is enough.

I've got the original U270.
Steer clear.... (unless they've fixed the following)

- bulky design (I could fit a sandwich inside the casing). Why ?! It could be so much slimmer !
- "warranty sticker" in your way if you want to add RAM or replace HDD
- pathetic builtin microphone, forget about teleconferencing without headset
- cpu fan running ALL the time, even when CPU temp is 0 deg C, WTF?!
- some models (mine) come with really crappy LCD

Apart from that, it's usable (especially if you put SSD in it).

Yes, If I were you, I would go for llano. A4 is really cheap and very battery friendly.

However, these Brazos 2.0 come closer to the A series. Not surpassing them but getting closer. better video, more cpu clock, means better overall.

The Atom 260 well, its slow. Sometimes it feels slower than a pentium 2. Not with brazos 1.0, and not with brazos 2.0.

Have you installed MSI software? because without it, the laptop runs without "control".
I found in several MSI laptops than even the brightness isn't controllable without installing the MSI button software. For example, if you don't install your audio card driver, you won't be able to give microphone a boost. But that happens with most laptops. Just don't use Windows included drivers, they seem to work, but no, they don't. Specially if yours is MSI.

the bulky part is the only problem for me.I had one, and it does great for what it's supposed to do and compared to other similar product.
everything else seemed working fine.
Was told the warranty sticker is replacable/opening it to add RAM wont break the warranty
but yeah, the bulky part is rather annoying, seeing many others are MUCH slimmer.

I want to put it in but have no idea where to start as every one has diffrent ideas how to do it... Can any one help......:twitch:

And my Toshiba Satellite or the Samsung I just got for a salesman will kick its ass in build quality, minus a couple squeaky keys on mine.
