Intel Ranks as One of the Greenest Companies

Today Newsweek unveiled its annual Green Rankings and Intel is ranked #7 on the U.S. 500 list (up from #15 in 2011) and #35 on the Global 500 list (up from #47 in 2011). Intel was recognized for its green initiatives including buying more green power than any company in the U.S., reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by 60 percent since 2007, and tying employee compensation to green performance.

How so? I know for one I would rather we found an alternative natural gas and oil so at least we're not reliant on the middle east for our energy needs and don't have to start or support false wars to do so. I also like the idea of using less myself as it means I pay less, so being green isn't all about hippy ideals/reducing global warming, not that I believe in the whole man-made global warming propoganda anyway.

We already have that. Its call propane. Half the cabs in NYC run off of propane. The US is the middle east of propane too.

We can produce more then enough for the whole nation for well over 100 years. As for running out of it that happens with everything. A fully renewable energy source is the holy grail right now and propane will give us a 100+ more years to find it.

That's a good point there. And propane is a lot better than oil anyway, hell even methane is better.
Gas does have it's limitations, but it's ideal for covering the daily "peaks" of energy use (nuclear operates only at constant output).

No one said they did, though they got brought into the conversation, oil from myself and I am sure they use a lot of oil, propane and other fossil fuels to generate electric, distribution etc the point is none of our energy consumption or generating is renewable regardless of whether it's gas, oil, propane or coal, which surprisingly enough is still used these days to generate electricity for the grid amongst other things.

FYI, Czochralski process used for growing large cylindrical ingots of crystalline silicon consumes a lot of oil /gas.
