first one was pretty epic expecting this one to be too, this time with sea battles.

first one was decently system crippling for the time and shogun 2 has proven itself capable as well hoping for massive armies coming together to bring my rig to its knees like only a simulator can.

yeah It will surely be VERY demanding,

I was gifted medieval II and its expansion. I guess its about time I try this series.

love this series. medieval 2 total war is by far my favorite. i feel it improved on rome total war . between this, crysis 3 and the new CoH i will be needing a new GPU to max things out. oh and time, i will be needing lots more free time...

RTW was and is the best of the series. Just go to the modding sites and you'll see which game has by far the most interest and most modding going on at every level. It came out in 2004, and many of the graphical unit mods are still as good as anything they put out now!

I would love to play it unmodded, but I wonder if CA will get it right this time. So many inaccuracies on the legionary armor, not enough variation in armor per time period or region, and very little auxillia troops. Mods changed all that, expanding unit rosters available to all nations, with (if you ran it through the Alexander expansion game engine), allowed you to have over 400 types of units, adding building and economy pieces and abilities!

Anyway, I digress....I still love RTW the best of all TW, and hope CA learned something from the modding community on the first one. So YES, I am looking forward to it!!

Since I don't have time to go and check the site rules, I can just PM you. Literally thousands of mods. And hundreds of pages of advice, from changing text files and stats and AI, to inserting individual soldiers to loading screens. And, there are also some Full-featured mods too which you might like which overhaul the whole game, like EB, Roma Surrectum, etc. (I ended up overhauling my own doing alot of editing as well as pulling things I liked out of full mods as well, so I could never release it myself -too many permissions, LOL). You can get an extremely modern looking and playing game out if it.

They have done sailing and now they are planning to DO both sailing and land battles in one map; you can attempt amphibious landings in Rome Total War II!!! This is pretty ambitious and im interested to see how it will pan out. It will be nice to see how the campaign map differs and how cities look. Im a big Total War fan as i like the tactical side of the gameplay, its not just about who can rush or heavy amounts of unit micro management.

Im not a fan of eyefinity or multi display setups but for Total War i can see it being pretty interesting, a monitor bezel doesn't necessarily distract as much in an RTS compared to something like an FPS.

I am, but like I said, hoping they have learned lessons from modders, since with Empire and Shogun 2, the games have gotten harder to mod. But those games do show they have applied alot of lessons...in fact Creative Assembly held a Modding Summit not too long ago. They DO listen, which is something alot of game developers don't do.

Even with Rome II, tho, I'll still play the original.

IDK, I've just not been a huge poster, and have only had a few problems. I guess I feel that even tho I'm very technically proficient with computers (I even build and repair for friends and family), I don't feel I am proficient enough to fully contribute here.

I guess you can say I have been a HUGE sponge, absorbing all the knowledge from those much more knowledgable than I on here!

I am not very optimisitic with Rome II

Will it be an amazing game? Yes
At launch? Unlikely

Creative Assembly has a penchant for releasing early patch MUCH MUCH later.

Also only eight factions, considering the trend with Shogun 2 and considering there will be some 50+ factions in Rome II suffice to say we will see ALOT of faction DLC

$5 per faction is a bit absurd but i guess for a PC only title they need to earn back the 40% larger budget SEGA gave them.

Still means modders wont be able to mod factions in as much as they could in Shogun 2 as any faction slated for DLC cannot be released in a mod.

So while I know this will be a good game in the end, SEGA and CA will draw things out far to long in terms of nickle and diming me for DLC I got for free via mods in previous titles. The more friendly modders while closing off modding possibilities shows this. Its the here have a cookie STFU sort of behavior.

Ill end up with the game and I will end up with 300-500 hours in it but color me jaded from there business practices.

Oh lets not forget the graphical cockups in Shogun 2 where after release they made graphics WORSE for high end users and never bothered to fix it.

The game is now released, currently the no. 1 seller on Steam.

2nd most played game in steam too, only behind dota 2(which is arguably the most played game on the planet) , not bad.

Looks like the "mainstream players" is finally giving that much deserved attention to the Total War series(I've been a player since Rome). Kinda like almost everyone I knew have played Skyrim but have no idea about Oblivion, Morrowind, etc.

yea to bad the games dumbed down with a terrible AI in battle, Campaign AI = passive even on legendary 1 year per turn means characters die so fast your unlikely to get many generals above level 2.

Faction in fighting via families etc is especially stupid due to 1 turn per year. Essentially if you turtle you end up with rebellions and coups against you and due to how things work your better off just rushing the enemy ala zerg tactics. If you deploy defensive fortification the enemy will 9/10 just ignore you surround there only city with forts etc they have 4-5 armies they wont attack.

Game is pretty much broken to the point The Creative Assembly has released a corporate apology for the games crappy launch quality.

That said it will get better almost every total war is this way altho sadly most of the bug fixes and improvements will once again come from modders as CA continues to lose touch with what made the series great in the first place.

I say all this having logged nearly 30 hours

first thing I recommend is the 2 turns per year mod which works very well in terms of character balance / faction intrigue balance etc.

Overall the games average a 7 / 10 with its launch state once things are fixed and modders get down to rebalancing the AI and gameplay elements it will be a 9/10.

Total War is like Elder Scrolls now its so mainstream easy that it requires modders to restore it to what it should be.
