So my friend has a bunch of shows on his computer in 1080p. He has a 1080p tv. How can he play those shows on his tv?

And will it impact the performance of his computer? Is there any product that he can ply it with that will not impact the performance of his computer?

If your friend has a dedicated GPU, no performance problem. just set the TV as 2nd display, set it at 1080p resolution. play the video file and fullscreen it on the TV.

Is there any product that he can ply it with that will not impact the performance of his computer = Yes, Video Card/GPU

Dedicated gpu for the tv? He has 1 Nvidia 560Ti. So you're saying if he runs his tv off that card, his gaming performance will also be impacted. But if he has another Nvidia card, and runs the tv purely off that 2nd card, it will not.

I thought my account had been hacked the second I scrolled down. The second thing that went through my mind was that I'm crazy, and I posted a response to my own thread, and forgot about it.

That's a relief!

Are there any external ways, like a usb, or harddrive, that can output full 1080p to a tv?

Yes. If he had any TV shows or movies that are encoded and saved as a file, such as a mpeg, on an external hard drive, just plug in the hard drive via usb cable (if the TV supports USB media) and the TV's own software should be able to play it on the set as 1080p. No computer required and the playback performance should be smooth at 24fps.

But the encoded video has to be 1080p to start with, otherwise the TV will either stretch it to fit or the TV will have black borders.

Thought I was seeing double too. But yours looks more blurry :p

High definition multimedia interface(HDMI) out from GPU to T.V., or Mini display port. Radio shack has TONS of video Cables.

Use the smaller plug on the top there, shouldn't cost more than $10.

The T.V. SHOULD have an HDMI input in the back, if NOT then you'll just need a gender change adapter.

This is what I do, DVI-D to monitor and HDMI straight to HDTV, just change the audio source (HDMI/Amp) depending what I'm watching and am good to go.

I would recommend a HDD media player or NAS/USB HDD if the TV can play USB content however caquse then you don't have to run your PC just to watch a video on your TV.

I guess lyndonguitar did not meant it ,just if your friend has a capable video card or not since you pretty much gave no info about system ,it could be ancient without power to play HD videos .
Is your friend planning to use watching shows while playing games?

Edit : 560Ti is more than enough

Please use the multi-quote and edit buttons. Multiple subsequent posts are against the forum rules.

Also, assuming your TV is sending it's display information over DDC, you should be fine. You may have to adjust underscan or overscan to get it to fit the display nicely. It should be as easy as plugging your computer into a regular monitor though.
